My front sprocket on the Trail Boss just lost all its teeth!! I was riding for a full day at Wayne National Forest and hearing a rythmical clicking sound all day. Coming up the last hill before we put the machines on the trailer I suddenly heard a loud nasty sound when I hit the gas hard. It was an easy hill, so I backed off and poked back to the truck. When I checked out the front sprocket today, the teeth were down to nubs! I need to get a new front sprocket obviously, but I want something better than stock. What is a good brand and type to go with? Where can I buy it? I have also got a chain with some tight spots in it. The chain is still under warranty, do you think the dealer will replace it? I have kept it lubed up and properly tightened. Has anyone had problems with the front sprockets on their Boss? Thanks for any help!

BK,

DO NOT GET THE SIDEWINDER!!!!! They seem to have the poorest quality control of all the manufacturers out there. Many people who own Polaris have found out the hard way. Either get a Sun Star or go with the OEM sprocket.

Hypersport,
Oh boy,Im not to happy to read your post.Just two wks ago I spent 239 dollars and purchased the very best and most exspensive chain/sprockets that SideWinder had. They lay claim to outlast any other brand 4-1.

Why is it that they have poor quality control?Im asking and sincerly hope that I did'nt get burned by them.

Had the same thing happen to me new sprocket cost me $23 at the dealer at that price I dont mind replacing them every year. Just keep my eye on it every time I service it.

MUDDY4LIFE,

The problem most were having is that the rear sprockets were improperly heat treated. This caused bending and warping. These were the new "stainless" sprockets. Funny thing, the front sprockets were regular carbon steel, not stainless as advertised. Hey if they work for you, keep them on. If they don't, get your money back, not a replacement sprocket.

BK,

Hot Seat Performance has Sun Star sprockets.

BK,
thank you for your response. The trouble is,I dont know if these new sprockets/chain are going to hold up as advertised because they just have not been on long enough,I'll keep my eyes on things though, thanks,
