What does a 700 belt do on a 500?

I have noticed a lot of people saying they have a 700 belt on their 500 scramblers. WHY? What does it do that is different than the stock belt? How does it work?

I would like to know can they be used on other quads? I have a 95 xplorer. Also are they better than hpd's kevlar belt?
