Have problem with 02 500 ho. No power will not take full throttle with gogging a little.Checked Fuel tank vent, air filter, new plug sill sluggish. The quad cranks and idles fine.Is it possible the float is stuck in carb? Ant suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I meant bogging, the quad does not rev up, it just gets to a certain point and kind of flattens out. I thought about the belt but the motors not turning up. Could it be the diaphram in the carb? Really need some help its alot slower than my friends 01 HO.

Check for a clogged intake & muffler. You would be surprised sometimes how much mud can get packed into a muffler, acting just like a restricter, not letting the engine rev out.
Also check (besides what else has been mentioned) to be sure the throttle cable opens the slide all the way. I have seen machines gain almost 10MPH by tightening the throttle cable.
If all that looks OK, check out or have checked out the camshaft. If I remember right, there were some cams in the 500 engines that were defective, and the lobes would round off prematurely.

That sounds like the same problem I had on my 2001 HO loss of power, back firing and it just would fall on is face at when I would hit the throttle. I thought it was the cdi box but it ended up being a bad stator that would short out after the motor was warmed up. My dealer replaced it for free.

One other quick thing you may want to try. My 01 HO did the same thing. It would start and idle fine, but would not take throttle. I had some water in the fuel. I just drained the carb right there on the side of the trail and it started up and ran perfectly. I bought gas that day from a station that I never get gas at (and never will again). May not be your problem, but it will only take a couple of minutes to try it out.

check your throttle free play. you should only have about a 1/16" to an 1/8" of freeplay if you have more or less the electric power lines you see running to the thumb switch is a shut off and regulates the throttle movement if its not adjusted right you WILL recieve a lack of power due to the electronic throttle control. check it out see if that helps any. look to the buyers manual for assistance. if it is still popping and raising hell check the exhaust at the seams for leaks this will cause it to backfire and pop also
