yes, i run one on my 1991...go to home depot or menard's and get a 5' PVC tube and a 45 or 90 degree bend depending on where you want your filter. you also need to get a rubber pipe connector(it will be in the PVC aisle and it will be black with a metal sleeve on it with two clamps riveted to the metal) I run an amsoil clamp-on filter with an outerwear over it but any clamp on filter will work as long as it has around a 2-2.25" inlet on it. PVC is 2" and connector is 2"to2"...cut pipe the right length toclear the rear shock assembly and glue on the elbow. oil the filter and install it on the elbow open end. put the connector on the open straight end and (oh yeah, get rid of the metal sleeve on the rubber piece and pull the clamps from the metal and put them back on the rubber) clamp it onto the pipe and the carb(teh stock intake will bend enough to move the carb to point the pipe to the side of the shock)...remember to check your plugs after running it with this setup as you are getting air in faster and more plentiful...this setup rocks, just be careful in mud and water!!!

On my 87, I just took the airbox off, and cut it so I just have the part where the K&N mounts to that goes onto the carb. Then to support the back, I took some aluminum and built a little mount that screws to the frame, and goes across the filter lid. The stud pokes through this mount. I slip the outerwear over it and screw it together, looks factory and cost me zilch.

I must be missing something here. If you have a K&N that fits and works in your current airbox, why would it hit something when you eliminate "most" of the airbox and the filter remains in the same location? That's what I did on mine. I think we're talking about 2 different things here.

what your missing is that on a 91/91 quadracer theres only about 2" of space between the back of the carb and the rear shock so theres a flat rubber hose connecting the carb to the air box witch is behind the shock and its big smashed up and looks like crap

I have a 91 FTZ built LT250r, and I run a clamp on. I have the FTZ reed cage, which is basically an FTZ modded Boysen. They port it and polish it. They also cut off the intake snorkle, turned it so that the angle goes to the side of the shock, and welded it back on. It works great!
