You can fill the cylinder with water at BDC, then measure how much comes out when you cycle to TDC. Make sure you're on the exhaust stroke. This doesn't work with a 2 stroke. Actually, I wouldn't use water, use ether. Ether is safer. Or you can use brake kleen. That's good stuff. Also, you'll need to change your oil afterward. You might want to crank it over a few times before you put the spark plug back in.
That's a lot easier than doing math.
