i have a 1987 lt80 the ignition key switch was broke so we took it off an hotwired it the orange an the red we spliced together an left the other to apart from every thing else as i think they are the kill swich leads i installed a new stator an a new carb new plug no spark from plug unless the gap setting is so close were it is almost touching the electrode it will spark nice blue color so is my kill switch shorted somewere or is the CDI Dead i would apprecciate any thoughts or help on this soon thanks[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif[/img]

Welcome to the forums.
My first thought is that you have the charging wire connected to the ignition wire. This produces very little spark.
Look under the hood and make sure that the wires from the stator are connected properly. Red/black wire is ignition. Red/white wire is charging.

I had the same sort of problem on my 92 lt230e....I would get spark, and it seemed to try and start, but spark was VERY weak....it was my CDI. I am not sure about your case, but that was what was wrong on mine....best of luck getting it running.....I just bought a real nice, very little use lt80 for my g/f, she is only 4'10 at 100lbs and seems to really like the size and ease of operation....Bill
