For the break in period you can go into any gear but you should only go half throttle in each gear.

 

As yoshz said, your best bet is to get it back to the dealer you bought it from. If they are a reputable dealer they will repair your problem. Don't screw around and tear up something yourself or your warranty is worthless. You should be riding, not worrying.

 

Yes there are such things as lemon quads. You better hope it wasnt made on a monday morning or a friday afternoon.

 

damn, hope this is not a lemon. what will happen to the engine if you rode it too hard without breaking it in? I will be taking the z in on friday and hopefully they can figure out the problem and fix it. I hope they will not keep it too long. Just my luck, the z will fire up and they will find nothing wrong.

 

I rode the heck out of mine when I first got it. There wasn't much of a break in period on it at all. I've had it for over 2 years now and haven't had any problems with it as far as the engine goes. When I first got it, it did backfire a few times but now its fine.
