Default Any tips to aid in changing an Eiger's oil filter?!

Since I have about 12 hours on my new Eiger I figured I would change oil this evening. Removed the inside fender cover guard & changed oil & filter OK, but putting the cover back on was like pulling teeth! You guys have same problem? I thought maybe I'll just lift it up & access filter from bottom of machine...wrong. No way to get to it from bottom short of removing skid plates. Is there a trick to make this process easier? Those plastic rivet holders (whatever they are known as), don't look to me like they will hold up for too many filter changes before they give up the ghost. Maybe its best to just buy a pack of those for future use.

Any tips appreciated,
HS

The last time that I changed the oil in my Eiger I drove it up on some ramps to get it in the air. I then removed the plastic skid plate. That was much easier than removing the splash guard. Then I was able to work from the bottom and through the side of the engine compartment. It seemed to work pretty good for me. Just remember to put your drain plug back in before you try to fill it with oil. It is really hard if you don't.

I didn't look to see how many bolts hold the skid plate, but it probably is easier that that dang splash guard. Those plastic connectors/rivets won't take much abuse & guard is a pain to reposition with wheel on. I may give it a try with ramps, or just use my winch to lift up front & set it on a bike stand. Machine has been great so far. I guess I can live with this one little quirk

Thanks,
HS

a lot easier to remove the inner fender if you take the tire off first. I have a plow on mine and removing the plow frame underneath the bike is just another big headache. Buy yourself some clips. I always have a few on hand, but purchase the clips with the bigger head. To me they seem more durable.

I put mine up on ramps also, made sitting next to it easy on the back. Then turned the front wheels all the way to the right and didn't have any problem getting that fender liner on or off. The filters were a different story, I think they put those suckers on with an impact wrench from the factory.

I guess I'm the odd ball, the only thing I take off is the small cover to the dip stick. I put the eiger front end up on ramps, take off the drain plug thru hole in skid plate and take the filter off with my hands most of the time or a rubber "sears" strap right thru the side of the hole in the plastic cover right there below the tank.

I don't want to sound like an a@@. But removing the side and putting it back on is easy. Push the pin in on the rivits to remove the cover. Then pull the pins back out past the point there they are flush. Put the cover back on and put the rivits back in the holes and push the pins so they are flush again.

I also like to remove the skid plate because I have a hard time getting all of the oil to run out and into the drain pan without getting some to pool on the top of the skid plate. I had such a hard time cleaning up that it was just easier to remove it.
