Haha! I know, right? That would be my luck!
The hole in the cam will hold it pretty tight and the steel bend-up-the-tabs-to-lock-the-bolts thingie will not allow it to move out.

Should hold a tad better timing with the dowel in.

Yuck! I forgot about all that nasty camber I had from those 250S a-arms! lol
Did you ever get the camber sorted out? What camber setting is desirable for a trail bike? Did you try to combine a lower LT250S arm with an upper LT230S or LT250R arm? I might be visualizing it wrong, but it looks like if you lowered the front end that you would have less positive camber?

Couple more questions.

1) I have a LT250S rear swing arm. If my measurements are correct, it is an inch longer than the LT230S swing arm. This might not be the case since I'm measuring with one arm installed. Has anyone installed an LT250S swing arm on the older chassis?

2) Is it possible to ditch the entire air intake system and just run a completely open filter? Might be a stupid idea, I don't know.

well unless you want to really go up in size on jets or throw a bigger carb on. i would stay away from an open filter idea. i ran a uni 2 stage with an outer wears prefilter had no tuning issues at all.

oh yeah the lt250s did have a longer a chain so its possible it may be longer on the swinger, but i doubt it would work on a lt230s frame.

Well, my search has led me here. I am active in forums for most everything I own and am looking for advice on finding a part. I have 86 or maybe 87 suzuki 230, kick start. The chain keeps popping off and this last time it broke the cover. i am finding these are hard to come by. Does anyone have a good link to a supplier? Unfortunately its not the best shape bike so sinking 250+ isnt an option. I just want to get it running for my kids. I had one new in 87 and loved it and what them to experience the fun of camping and riding.

And what is the best route for keeping that chain on? I don't see any type of adjuster, only some worn down chain guides are on it. is that my problem?

Thanks in advance. I did find Vinces cycles, but never get a response to emails so fear its an old website.

Well, first off check the swing arm bearings for play.Jack it up from under the frame and see if anything moves, If it does theres part of problem.
Second the angle of the swing arm tightens the chain when jumping, soif you have it real tight it will stretch the chain/ swing arm bearing tube. I run my chain with about 2 inches play when it is sitting without me on it. when i sit on it i leave about an inch of play. Havent thrown a chain since 05.
Third is o ring chain. Even with bad swing arm and carrier bearings i havent lost a chain.
As far as the cover goes, vinces cycle don't sell parts anymore. Ebay is your best bet,Although quiksteel will work in a pinch or just have it welded

I appreciate the advice. I'll check all the play in it today. i guess I'll bite and buy the 140 dollar part I found on ebay. I spend two days fabricating from epoxy steel something that would cover the hole. had everything all set and epoxied in and rtv'ed the housing, filled it with oil and it leaked. I guess I had tightened it enough to hairline crack the part I had made.

That and my chain is probably toast. I bought the bike last it last summer, kinda on nostalgia, and have ridden it twice, chain fell off every time we have ridden it and this last time broke the case pretty good. But the kids are getting antsy about our first camping trip this year already so I better get the move on!

You can also use hondabond to help with sealing up that cover.
