Loosen the lock nut on the timingchain tensioner,Then I like to turn the flywheel slightly counter clockwise n hold pressure on flywheel so timing chain is tight then loosen tensioner screw with flat tip screwdriver then retighten the flat tip screw then tightn lock nut.im sure there's other ways to tightn timingchain.I also have held slight pressure down on the kickstarter then release the chain tensioner but its a little harder reaching over the quad n holdn the kickstarter down, but can b done dat way also.Let us know how u make out

I'm going to be buying mine in the next two weeks or so, just waiting on some extra cash to get thrown my way. I've started on a new project in the meantime, building one badass lt500r engine. I just picked up most of an engine for 130, everything but the top end, with no cracks in the cases. It's being shipped tomorrow so I'll take pics when I receive it and post them up. The anti-vibe steering stem should be a great improvement over the stock one on the 230. The only thing big on my bike that is going to be stock over the original 230 is the frame haha, even the engine is from an lt250s.
Ain't all those laptop power supplies 12v? Hook a car battery up to it

Yes heads n cases r bolted together n line bored so the local honda shop tells me yes thats the same honda shop i've been talkn to for thirty years nonstop.LOL .i've found out in some cases if the crank stroke is taller then another crank the top ends do interchange because the pistons are shorter.now a long time ago I had a 1973 honda z50 the engine ran perfect but tranny was bad.So I had a honda sl70 that the top end was shot. The SL70 case was a little longer had a manual clutch n an extra gear then the Z50 did.so I put the z50 head on the sl70 lowerend had to use the z50 camchain also. Now I put this engine in the z50 n wow what a wheelie machine it was.now the SL70 had longer stroke n the z50 piston was shorter then the SL70,so the z50 piston fit rite in ,I told the guys at the Honda shop n they more or less calld me a liar.I ran the **** out of that thing then sold to a friend for $150.00 n he ran the crap out of it.so i think in some cases longer or shorter cranks you can interchange topends because factorys make the differents up by usen taller or shorter pistons.holycrap im rambling!!

Yeah that's a ramble lol. The kaw1000 was an example of what you're saying. They had short and tall pistons for different years. But suzuki didn't do that. The 66mm piston for the 230 is the same 66mm piston in the 250 4x4, which has a longer stroke and rod, so a taller jug.

The 68.5mm piston of the 250S is the same piston as the 300 king quad, but the king has a longer stroke, so its a taller jug again.

Another thing about the taller jugs is better heat dissipation. The 250S has a taller jug than the 230S because its longer rod (even though the stroke is the same). I don't think there was enough room to squish the piston down 4mm without putting the wrist pin in the oil rings. But why do that when the jug could be made taller and dissipate more heat?

And now the cam chains... there seem to be 3 of them. 1 fits the 230. 1 fits the 250S and 2504x4. 1 fits the 300 king only.... and its a monster dual chain that will never stretch.

Yup, lots of things work off of 12v. Computers have 12v motors and then +-5 and 3v for cpu and chips. Boom boxes usually work on 12v. I take a boom box mp3 player and atv battery camping. It plays all weekend plus charges cellphones. Much better than 8 C-size batteries. My scanner's power supply crapped out so I hooked up an atv battery to it. A battery is nice clean power.

So, has anyone taken the jug and rod from a 300 and put it onto a 250s engine? I wonder if the 230 frame would even be tall enough to hold that combo if it fit together?

I doubt it. I think the rod is the same on the 300 and 250S. The 300 just has a longer stroke. Not only that, but there is a LOT of clearance between the piston and head on the 300. I kinda shot myself in the foot when I put a domed piston in my 300. I should have went with a flat stock piston and just milled the jug down. Now I have spark knock at idle. It sounds like a diesel.

Whoops, I meant to say crank, not rod...

Idk if it would fit. That would be a hell of a thing. My king weighs 850lb and runs pretty good. I can get up to 37mph in 350ft from a dead stop. Imagine that same engine in a 320lb machine with chain drive and a lot less friction. Wouldn't be able to hold the wheels down!

A stock king is 650lb and will get up to 31mph in 350ft. According to my math, my engine produces 78% more power than stock. Of course, stock isn't a lot to start with.

Sounds like the best idea and there only $10 on ebay. Do you know will my CDI work?
