85 to 88 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport help.
Idk if it would fit. That would be a hell of a thing. My king weighs 850lb and runs pretty good. I can get up to 37mph in 350ft from a dead stop. Imagine that same engine in a 320lb machine with chain drive and a lot less friction. Wouldn't be able to hold the wheels down!
A stock king is 650lb and will get up to 31mph in 350ft. According to my math, my engine produces 78% more power than stock. Of course, stock isn't a lot to start with.

I'm looking for a 250s engine and I'd buy a 300 crank to see if it would fit. The crank is probably a lot easier to find than the 250s engine.
Lots of kings out there. Not too many 250S engines. You'd have to figure out the clutch stuff too. The 300 has the auto clutch. The flywheels look to be the same though.
The honda 300ex is already a 300 and its pretty freaking fast. I had trouble keeping the wheels down when I raced a warrior (with fmf pipe and powerbomb header, kn filter, big carb). The warrior is slow, heavy, and tall. The 300ex is lighter, lower, and peppy and will flat run off and leave any warrior except maybe the most modded ones. I don't know what was done to the 300, but I liked it. It may or may not have had a wiseco in it. The warrior was fast for a warrior, but the warriors are heavy. Over 400lbs. I think the 300ex is 375 with a battery and starter.
A buddy got the LTZ400 and I didn't like it. Its tall like warrior. It has power, but not like a raptor, so its caught in the middle ground where on one hand its too much and on another its not enough.
I also have a lakota 300. Its fast and low to the ground, but its 450lbs and auto clutch. I think it makes a good ole lady quad.
300 seems to be a good number. Anything bigger ends up being taller and anything over 30 inch seat height scares me.
Yeah the stock 230 susupension sucks. The 250S suspension is much nicer. The 400 can be modified to sit lower, but if you're gonna do all that, do it to a raptor which weighs about the same.
That's why I'm thinking the 300 is about right. Its light and small. 280cc at 325lbs should be pretty nice. Even at 375lbs ain't bad.
Lakota shocks are fairly nice too. Maybe they can be made to work on a 230. Dual rate springs and lots of travel http://www.ebay.com/itm/KAWASAKI-Lakota-KEF300-95-96-97-98-99-00-FRONT-SHOCK-SHOCKS-SUSPENSION-01-02-/130653236410?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e6b8a2cba&vxp=mtr
The 300ex shocks look like 230 shocks, which suck http://www.ebay.com/itm/93-94-95-96-97-98-HONDA-300EX-TRX300EX-ADJUSTABLE-FRONT-SHOCK-SHOCKS-SUSPENSION-/130700643031?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e6e5d8ad7&vxp=mtr
Warrior not all that great either http://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-01-Yamaha-Warrior-YFM-350-YFM350-Front-Shocks-Suspension-/281058559850?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item417065476a&vxp=mtr
Hard to find a decent set of dual rate oem shocks for cheap. The 250S and Lakota shocks stand out in this area.

If the 250 raptor beat the 300 that I rode, then it would have to be on nitrous. The 300 was faster than my 250 and mine had a straight pipe, 28mm carb, kn filter, light tires and non-o-ring super light chain. Oh, I had it ported for a 32mm carb at the time, but was running a 28mm carb. Idk if that made a difference or not. Anyway, the 250 couldn't hold much of a candle. I guess the 300 must have had a wiseco in it.
The 300ex has a 4 valve head. The raptor 250 only 2 valves. They both have the same piston size, but the 300 has a 7.5mm longer stroke for 33 extra ccs. 4 valves and 33 extra ccs should win.

No lol I don't consider a 250 a raptor. Guess I shoulda said 660 or 700.
