85 to 88 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport help.
I suppose I could try 1-step leaner needle, but I'm not sure how to measure the one I have. The one I'm using now has a part number that is not used anymore - apparently. Maybe I could call sudco and they could cross reference it... Otherwise I'd be guessing trying to use one of those charts with the ABCD on the taper.

I just gave you one hell of a tune from sudco.. it was 85$ more than just a carb, try what I got, a 5DP39 is like 5 bucks? try eveyrthing else I have ...use a 240 main and richen your pilot to like a 16 or 18. I bet cruising throttle is perfect and wot thraps are awsome. You have more of an "on-off" needle that would really really suck if you got stuck :-)

MJlar94 if you need a pipe I have still have my stock pipe. It's been spray painted with high heat paint a silver/gray but otherwise it's in good condition. If you pay for shipping I can hook you up. Btw I have the DG Xcellerator on mine now and it's night and day with the TM28 carb and the Xcellerator pipe, so to me it's worth every penny but up to you let me know about the stock pipe.</end quote></div>
Did you have the TM28 before the pipe or do both at the same time?

5DP39 is what comes with all TM28's.... Whether you pay 85 extra or not. I have that exact needle and it sucks. That's what I've been beating my keyboard about for the last couple of weeks on this thread. It doesn't have enough taper for such a small engine that has little vacuum compared to big engines.
My quad runs great now! What part of that are you not understanding? You're misreading my posts or something and concluding I have a crappy running quad,,, or something... I can't figure it out.... On off needle??? Not me! My idle is a bit too rich and all I need is a pilot jet. My plug looks like #12... So, what's wrong with that? I'm not going to pay $5 for a needle I already have and copy what sudco says so my plug will look like a #4.
Now, I might try a 1-step (1-step out of like 15 or so) leaner needle (which is still a lot richer than the 5DP39) OR I might get a smaller pilot. I dont know yet. I'm going to do some electrical work first and see how that turns out before I make up my mind.

If you have a diff on the axle, you may need gear oil there, but no gear oil goes in the engine. Use 10w-40 or whatever. I think it says 10w-40 right on the oil plug,,, or maybe that's my kaw that says that,,, I don't know, but the engines are almost the same anyway and one of them says it, lol.</end quote></div>
I defentally have gear oil. I'm assuming that it the other fluid in the enine that is not motor oil.

I went here http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_atv_parts.htm and clicked on 1991 and then the only 230 I seen on the list. Then I clicked on crankcase and loocked at the pic. I don't see 2 places for oil. Its all one big case. And if you have gear oil in your engine, I would get it out asap! Its too thick for the rod and cam bearings and will do lots of damage. As far as I can tell, gear oil shouldn't go anywhere on that quad.

I highly doubt it.. You bike looks just like my wifes 93. Wet sump engine (I pretty sure they are called) just have regular oil. Is that a sport or a quadrunner by the way?

This whole carb jetting thing seems to be semi educated guessing. In all that I have read, and all the people I have talked to, even the "pros" just try to get "close" then make adjustments from there.... Though there is definately a science to it, there are just too many variations in each bike to have a perfect set up that fit everybody. Maybe that is why the dial a jet is so popular????? Gives a carb that is jetted close to what u need, that lil fudge factor to make it perfect???

I'm going with a correction factor of .85 (take pilot and main and x by correction factor) since im almost sea level in mass here..
19.125 pilot (shops only got 17.5 so im getting that and we'll see how it idles for 10 mins)
That puts me at a 212.5main (going /w 220) then a new plug and chops down the street... ugh hope the neighbors dont mind.. its better than a blownn motor 5 mi in the woods..
