Well it could always be worse! Here low 80's to 90's for the better part of 2 months and haven't riddin at all!! Gonna remedy that next weekend for 3 days! Can't wait!!!

 

hey, sorry to butt in here but while that diagram is handy i got a quick question,

parts #48-52, what is thier purpose?? i saw them in there when i rebuilt my motor a little while back, and i didnt know what to do with them so i just let them alone.

its not really important but i was just curious what exactly they are.

 

Those are for an optional odometer you could have purchased back in the day. I'm thinking about taking the plug out and making a 2nd breather tube (as long as oil doesn't fly out too badly).

Been about the same here until now. In august we didn't have a drop of rain until that hurricane blew over and dumped 4 inches in a day. Now that I finally have my quad done, its a muddy mess, lol.

 

Can you believe they want $150 to custom make a steel sprocket? I can get a 39T steel sprocket for $15. 36 is a bitch to find! So, I called the dealers around here.... One said he had a 35 for a 520 chain for $20, so I go down there and he hands me a go cart sprocket for a 420 chain! I should have handed him the dumbass award, but I was fresh out. Of course, these are the same guys that told my buddy he had a 1970 250S quadsport. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif[/img]

 

Most dealers are plane dumb.

 

The guy that owns the place can sure turn out a good bore job though! But that's about all he's good for.

I've come to the conclusion that chain weight doesn't really matter that much. What matters is the size of the front sprocket! The bigger the front sprocket, the more chain weight and chain friction and rear sprocket weight come into play. But even then, its hard to justify going to extremes on a quad. On a bike, definitely, but a quad just can't spin both those big wheels that fast to make much of a difference. However, if you like a 13/39, you'll love a 11/33!

 

Is that what you went with 11/33? how equivelant is that?

 

No, I wish I could use 11/33. The chain would hit the swingarm. I think 35 is about as small as the back sprocket can get without the chain scrubbing across the top of the swingarm under load. I'd like to find a 35 and 36. 11/33, 12/36, 13/39, 14/42 are all the same ratio.... 1/3.

One way or another, I'm going to try 12/36... Maybe even a 12/35. I'd hate to spend $50 on an aluminum sprocket though. But I'm not sure I can commit to a $150 steel one yet, lol.
