Is the steele one $150 because it is custom? I can't even remember what i am running. I think I went a little taller than stock keeping in mind I went to 20" tires in the back.

Yeah, because its custom.

You probably have 12/39 or 13/41. Unless you changed both sprockets. Was probably 12/41 stock with 22 inch tires.

Everybody seems to like 13/39, but I think that's only because anything taller is too hard to find. It took me a long time to find a 14. I kinda like the 14/41, but at the same time it always seemed like I was riding with the brakes on. Could never put my finger on it. I'm curious about a 12/35 (about the same as a 14/41). I'll get the wide gear spacing I like, but maybe I'll still have some pep with less chain and smaller sprockets. Not sure I wanna pay $50 just to find out. The problem I always have is I'm either revving 3rd out or boggin 4th. I've already tried going lower... That didn't work. I'd like to just stay in 3rd if I had enough power. Use 4th for the straights. Not sure what to do with 5th.... 50 mph in the trails is just too bloody fast!

I can find 38's for the back pretty easy now. 13/38 is about the same as 14/41 too.

Hurricane is long gone. It dumped 4 inches in a day n split. We camped all weekend n burnt a few trees worth of wood. Worked on a friend's Warrior.... He ordered this bigass KN filter for it. Its almost as big as the whole airbox! We got that mounted to a 38mm roundslide and a FMF glasspack on the other end.... That thing will haul! Waiting on a needle to get the jetting exactly right, but there's not going to be any out-running that thing! Not with a 250 anyway. So, I kinda got inspired to move the maximum amount of air thru the 230/250..... Thinking about a KN filter for a car or truck with that 32mm roundslide and make it fit in the frame. The bigger the filter, the easier to pull air thru it! I also designed and made a muffler with zero backpressure that should suck up all the high notes and sound pretty sweet on the low end. I'll post some pics in the next day or so.

The FMF people are a bunch of tards on the website, but somehow the end product works out darn well. I'm thinking they just take someone else's muffler and relabel it. Btw, beware of mufflers with megaphones! I found out using the leaf-blower that reverse cones increase backpressure. You'd never guess. I suppose that's why you never see a dragster with a megaphone. No wonder that Jardine I have sucks so bad.

I have an FMF on my 440ex and it rocks! Well, it sounds awesome atleast!
Nice and quiet when it needs to be, but a really deep growl when yer on it!

BTW, the aluminum air box it has now, is HUGE, has to be to house the HUGE air cleaner!!!! I think yer on to something!

I think this is the one he got: http://www.knfilters.com/searc...duct.aspx?Prod=RX-3770 The pic doesn't do justice to the size of that thing! And as big as it is, you can still see the carb straining to suck all the air it wants. I'm thinking car filter.... V8.... Big block even, lol.

The FMF glasspack may not be the absolute best, but its close and easy to make. Flowmaster seems to have something better than even an open pipe. Check out the dyno: http://216.210.174.104/images/first_catalog.pdf

How come dragsters are running straight headers, but everything else has restriction? YES I git 1100 hp is different.........

Everything else has restrictions because of rules n regulations about sound levels. Backpressure is never a good thing. The idea is to keep the exhaust moving fast so that when valve overlap happens, the exhaust actually pulls more air thru the carb. They call that scavenging. The more of that you can do, the more power you can make.

Here's what FMF says, "Having less backpressure (louder), the more top end power you'll have. More backpressure (quieter), the more bottom end power you'll have." http://www.fmfracing.com/techs.../faq_detail.aspx?id=51

This is where I'm thinking a distributor is talking and not anyone that actually knows anything. Every dyno I've seen shows more lowend as well as topend power with less backpressure. That warrior with the FMF pipe has plenty of lowend. And I'm sure a 440 with a FMF is not starving for lowend either! The FMF pipe is pretty much an open pipe with fiberglass packing around it. That's about as close to zero backpressure as you'll get without running plain ole straight pipes.

Besides, how could you make more power by forcing the piston to work harder at getting the exhaust out? It just doesn't make sense.

Now, headers are different.... Small headers make more lowend torque because the exhaust moves faster thru them. But they also hold back power on the topend because they're so small. Large headers make more power on the topend, but they lose power on the bottom because the exhaust doesn't move as fast thru them. Some might see small headers as "backpressure", but it doesn't have anything to do with mufflers. A muffler with backpressure isn't going to add HP anywhere to the curve.

The only thing I'm wondering about now is, if flowmaster is telling the truth, why don't dragsters use flowmaster mufflers because they're better than open pipes? Hmmm... Makes you wonder....

Here's 2 identical engines. One has a muffler and the other an open exhaust. Where is the loss of lowend???
