Top down: Warrior stock muffler, Jardine 250S muffler, some driveshaft I found, 230 stock exhaust.
I didn't have the right size pipe on hand, so I hacked up the 230 header and part of the Jardine muffler to get enough pipe for the job. The more holes, the quieter. I heard Harley drills 8 rows of holes for the US market and 4 rows for the Euro market.
Getting ready to wrap. I didn't have stainless steel wool,,, hopefully regular steel wool will work.
Wrap it up.
Fiberglass mat... good for boat repairs n such. Kinda looks like a stogie here, lol.
Does fiberglass burn?
Nope!
Here's how I stuffed it...
Doesn't look too bad....
Sounds great! Added power too. Wheelies are on demand now! Whew, I thought I cut my throat with that +4 swingarm.
It doesn't weigh anymore than the stock muffler... maybe less. I know its not as much as a 5lb weight lifting plate.
I just have to figure out the tail pipe and the spark arrestor.

Here's why I say megaphones add backpressure:
It takes a firm hand to hold the cone at the end of the leaf-blower. I guess the air rushing thru creates a vacuum behind it and tries to pull the cone away from the blower. I was surprised, but I guess that's why serious mufflers never have megaphones. Even Suzuki ran a pipe all the way thru the megaphone on their stock 230 exhaust! I always wondered why they did that.

My homemade oxygen sensor adapter:
The nut is what holds the front 230 sprocket on, lol. It fit the sensor. The pipe is a piece of galv plumbing I found laying around.
It works!
Strapped the meter on so I can get real-time mixutre info. (the engine is off in these pics, that's why the reading is low).
The sensor should go from .1 volts to 1.1 volts. The higher the number, the richer it is. .4 is supposed to be about right. Currently, most of the time I'm .7-.9, so I'm a bit rich (but I knew that anyway... #10 pilot, needle clip at top spot, etc). I going to have to get a smaller needle jet.

I am here, hangin loose trying to get some stuff done. Trying to get my trailer rebuilt while the weater is somewhat nice, and before I need it for the anticipated move. Both machines are tucked away in the shed for now, though I might get my extra carrier and swing arm washed and prepped for new bearings this weekend?

Where are you moving? I kinda miss the north.... It never snows here and only 2 months of the year are really considered cold. I can't wait for winter... Or at least fall.... I'm tired of not being able to breathe, lol.
You still thinking of extending the swingarm? Last weekend a friend of mine (250lbs) stood on the grab bar and had to push on the ceiling of the garage and bounce to get the back shock to bottom! He ended up bending the grab bar too. I would have never guess based on how soft that rear end is.
I'll go flip my trailer and drill a hole and see if I can figure out how thick that steel is for you. I need to do an inspection anyway.

Randy.. You are the Man! Muffler looks great and appreciate the insight on the airflow and confirmation just about anything can be built.
We are enjoying a bit of cool weather from the storms...much needed cooling. I hope to have my maiden run next weekend.

Thanks!
Just trying to save 300 bucks.
If I had a pile of cams, I'd try welding n grinding for more duration and lift. I'm pretty sure I could come up with something that worked,,, eventually, but not sure I want to risk my only 230 cam.

I love a good storm. If not for the last hurricane that blew over, we wouldn't have had any rain for august. It was beginning to look like fall here with all the yellow and brown leaves. They all greened up after that rain.
Be sure to post some pics and let us know how the maiden voyage goes!
