Default 85 to 88 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport help.

Oh, lol, sorry. When you said "driveshaft" I was thrown off.

Is that #41 in this pic? http://www.alpha-sports.com/satv/1987/LT230S/43.htm

Tough to see why that would keep breaking... Is the chain hitting it? If #61 is too short for some reason, and you have an o-ring chain, I could see the chain coming into contact.

My only other thought is that the bearing (#38) is bad and the driveshaft (#16) pushes out under load. Are you having any trouble shifting gears? Slipping out of gears? Things like that?

Is you chain too tight? Do you have problems keeping the chain from coming off? You know if the chain is too tight, an incredible load can be placed on bearing #38 when the rear shock is compressed.... for instance after a jump. I always place my full weight on the grab bar to compress the rear shock as much as possible and verify that the chain is still loose. Chain problems are the #1 issue with these quads. Its mainly due to bad swingarm bearings, bent swingarm bearing tubing, bad axle bearings, and worn-out chain.

It is actually #46 in this pic. I have checked the chain and it is fine on adjustment. I replaced the swingarm bushings this spring and the axel bearings are fine. I will look at the shaft bearing as it might be worn.

Oh, you have the E. I didn't know that.

Its seems like the only way that bearing would wear out is if at some point somebody had the chain too tight for too long. I've actually been quite surprised at how much abuse those bearings can take.

I suppose its possible the driveshaft is bent as well.... But I don't see how that would happen.

Let us know what you find out.

Sorry for lack of information. Thanks for your suggestions. I am going to replace the spacer #55 this time and check the bearing. If that is it then a simple and cheap enough fix.
Thanks again for the suggestions and help.

You're welcome. Post back with the results.

I'd only suspect the spacer if there was evidence of the chain causing the damage. The spacer should be 17.3mm long according to alpha sports. I was thinking someone in the past might have altered that for some reason. Or the sprocket that is on there now could have a different offset than oem.
