swartzy mine running same way but breaks up on top gonna fit up a 300ex carb and if carb dont fix motor gettin swapped</end quote></div>
Before I say this, I AM NOT A MECHANIC, but I have read a TON of posts in this thread and MANY more........ From what I read, carbs are not interchangeable! As well as info from many of my mechanic friends
There are 400cc machines with 26mm carbs ( like ours) as well as 200cc machines. There is no universal fit. A "friend" better known as a kid I went to elemetary school with, used to work at SUDCO. He told me that the carb has to mate with the engine completely. As in, what is the intake like, stock box with modified lid/no lid etc, high flow air filter/what brand? stock filter with no lid? Exaust? slip on or full? overbore or bigbore? if so how much? what type of gas? what elevations do you ride? Don't mean to sound like an a$$hole but these guys have been around forever and do great work. They used to build ALL my carbs during almost 20yrs of racing on 2 wheels, and it seemed like EVERYTIME they helped me it was an interrogation! But they always had the hook up...
Just my 2 cents.

As far as the starting of a 230 goes gota get a feel for it and dont be a pus my 115lb old lady starts mine sometimes with out compression release [img][/img] usually when real cold gota pull thingy out on kicker side and giver full choke 1-2 kicks it alive warmer i just half choke and kick 1-2 it goin once warm eff choke but when motor was not broke in i had to pull start it to get fired was like kicking a footpeg so might have to run it a lil and it will free up a lil</end quote></div>
If yours is running like crap and your 115lb lady can start it w/o compression release, you have crappy compression. If I stand beside it and kick it w/o compression release the opposite wheels will almost lift off the ground. Not exaggerating! When I get pull-started by another quad and chain I have to be in 4th gear and moving pretty fast or the tires will just drag.

yeah mine was like that when first rebuilt after a few rides got better but i got used to starting it so became no big deal unless i was on a huge incline then i was nervous mine crapped out all at once was fine then started running like poop carb has always had issues and cant see how putting the 300 carb is gonna make much of a difference aint quite up to 32mm stats but what do i know??? and no offence to anyone i got carb 4 free and if it dosnt work ill buy a new one but i can say that since i hooked up comperrion release bike bike has not ran normal feels like brakes are on or something but for the abuse i put it through i cant complain exept that i wished it had crapped in winter when not ridin as much

A free carb is definately worth a shot! Like I said, I don't know what I am doing, I am winging it!!
You guys a re scaring me with this compression release thing. I never used it when it was stock, yet it had GREAT compression and was sooooo easy to kick.................. ALWAYS fired first kick. Hot, cold, whatever. Sounds to me like I am gonna need to hook it up for the new motor!!

Guess that solves it for me, considering I only weigh 160lbs! Anybody got a compression release lever, cable and perch they wanna sell??</end quote></div>
You just have to slowly manuver the kick starter to get the piston on the exhaust stroke (when the exhaust valve starts to open). Then move the kick starter back to the top and kick the **** out of it. That's about the only way I can start it w/o the compression lever on. Sometimes I get lucky and I can get 3 or 4 kicks in w/o having to use the lever. Other times I get 1 kick and then its back on the compression stroke.

find it kinda funny that you guys are taking about your quad running bad or have too much compression. mine LT wont start. unless you kick it for 5 minutes straight then when its running your too tired from kicking to ride and its smoking so bad you would think its a two stroke
