I'm definitely leaning toward parting this rig out.
In doing research into how this happens and what steps can be done to repair it (if any), I found some interesting things on honing the small end of the connecting rod to accept a new wristpin.
As you mentioned however, even with that done, what else is lurking around in that bottom end that I don't know about...?
It's about time to start turning wrenches and firing up the old ebay skills!

Have you replaced a conrod before? I haven't, but have a (rather nicely) blown 230S motor in the basement that I started disassembling ages ago and got stuck trying to get the flywheel off. I never got a puller for it so there its sat. (there are pics of the conrod and piston on my photobucket page that the other pics are on if you'd like to see how f'd it got) To me, it looked like quite a PiTA to do that procedure - am I just intimidating myself? Is it relatively easy?
Doing some sloppy math:
- Rod = $160
- Cylinder bore = $70 (including approx. 2 way shipping)
- Piston kit = $120
- Gasket set = $40 (w/shipping)
- Carb rebuild = $35 (w/shipping)
Total = $425
I'll have less than $900 into the whole project at that point. I need to figure out if that's worth it or not...

the trick to pulling flywheels is to find a HARDENED steel piece that resembles an acorn nut but without any threads in it. and it needs to fit the pilot (unthreaded portion of the crank before the threads start) snugly, but not go on far enough to touch the threads. then you can pull out the crank's endplay towards you with something that is sturdy but will give (wood wedges work good) behind the flywheel. then whack on the end of the crank WITH THE "ACORN NUT TYPE THING" OVER IT and it should come off in a snap.

the 250r ate it big time yesterday. the upper shock mount gave way landing a jump, the shock shaft snapped, the front dug in to the ground, and my friend landed so hard on the bars it broke my steering stem and broke his wrist in two places. then the bike rolled 3 or 4 times down a big hill and broke some more stuff. my friend doesnt remember any of this.
i say, ITS LTR450 TIME SON!!!

Anyone else hate oil changes? What a pain! Even more so now on the DVX! With the skid plate on there, the oil spills all over on top of the skid plate, and now I have to drain the oil tank as well as the motor! The oil tank was strangely misaligned with the hole so I had to push it to the side to get the socket on there right, seemed kind of weird.
Maybe after a few more I'll be able to do it without using half a roll of paper towels. lol

I guess the good news is that friend gets to make the down payment on your ltr now!

im not really sure what im gonna do just yet. ive been tossing the ltr idea around for a long time and i think this just about finalizes it...
i will probably end up fixing it (with some SERIOUS frame gusseting) since i have a spare shock and all i really need to replace is the steering stem (ebay!). and then ill sell it for an ltr after the winter.
