85 to 88 Suzuki LT230S Quadsport help.

Hello, I just got a 1986 LT230GE. It needs some work but seems to be in pretty good shape over-all. I started reading this thread a few days ago and got through 230 pages so far......dang this is one long thread. I'll keep reading and looking for tips I can use, and let you guys know how things progress. Mine is a shaft drive unit so, I'll have to pick and choose what I can use from here. I'd be appreciative if anyone knows any other sites with info and tips on my specific ATV. Thanks for all the info and entertainment.

I wonder what page my first post was on?? Around 500? Its hard to know because the forum program has changed.
Anyways, post up some pics when you can!

I believe there was another person on here with the elusive shaft drive model. If I remember correctly he couldn't find a ton of info on it, and last I heard was talking of selling it? It must suck not having any rear suspension on those things. Plus it seems only a few were made, so getting parts could be a PITA.

Yes, but when its back in the case, can you here it running but it doesn't start, or it doesn't even turn on once its in the case?
When you have it out of the case, how do you have the power hooked up? If you're just putting it directly on a battery, maybe the starter cable aren't getting power.
If it runs with its power cables outside of the case and you put it back in with nothing happening, then it could be something is jammed or you're shorting out the motor somehow.

Yes, it was substantially better than 12/41. Most run 13/39, with 20" tires, I ran 12/39 with 22" tires. I kept the 12 on there because the 13 wouldn't fit with the Bike Bandit case saver I had and that was more important.

when i put the starter in the case when i throw the juice to it it wont spin its like its jammed buy out of the case it works fine the way im putting power to it is jumping the starter with a battery charger as for the sproket issue i will go with the 12/39

A 12V test light will be able to at lease tell you you're getting power to the starter when its in the case.
If something's jammed, sounds like its time to start diggin'!
