So, I have a bit of a problem. My 230 blows fuel smoke like crazy. Its crazy rich at idle and low speed. I've rebuilt the carb and the float is set perfect. The idle mixture screw is all the way in and its still crazy rich. I've dismantled it a hundred times moving the needle, doing whatever I can to get it to work properly and only once, It idled properly and didnt smoke. I let it sit for 20 minutes and it never stalled. Then the next time I started it, it was pooched again.

Im pretty sure the carb is done at this point. Idle speed is a bit higher than normal and it wont stall, but if you set it normal, it will eventually stall within a minute. Bike starts first kick. Operates normally, goes like it should. I've been told the smoke clears at wide open throttle, and it doesnt miss at all at any speed, just pops when decellerating occasionally.

I cant figure it out. Im going to buy a new 28mm flat slide, but not until next month. Im going on 3 more rides before then.

EDIT: I did a search, and based on the little information I found, I still think its the carb.

Sounds like jets to me. Chances are the main jet has been worn over time from the needle constantly riding in it.

I forgot to mention I fully rebuilt the carb. It's got jets as per the manual. I did some poking around and reading last night and I read something about a bypass in the pilot system. I don't fully understand how it works but I suspect that the fuel is just bypassing all the time.

Anyone know what carb it is that Vince cycle sells?

Anyone have any close up pics of the left side of the carb (opposite side of the throttle screw and air mixture screw).

I have a feeling parts are missing from my carb.

check the vault. Nothing over there except the choke lever. if yours was stuck open that would be your problem.

Thats the only side the vault doesnt have. All choke parts are new. There was a hole on the side, like a factory passage. All the other ones have what look like a little ball in them thats sealed. This one didnt and it looked like it was cast directly to the pilot jet. I plugged it and it dramatically changed how it ran, but it still runs terrible. But its a step in the right direction because the air adjust screw does something now.

On the intake ports, Im curious what the hole below the choke intake is for. The one thats not listed. Is it supposed to be plugged? A vent?

I think somehow I blew something out of the carb when I was cleaning it. Like somekind of factory sealed passage.
