Help!! 05 Vinson Auto Clutch
#1
I'm wondering if anyone has had any problems with their Quadmatic
Clutch. I've just toasted my second one in 1600km, the splines on the
inner face keep stripping out and then it wears into the spacer on the
other side of it. I've been stranded out on the land by it already.
My dealer said that they haven't had any problems out of any of the
other ones they've sold before. I'm just running the gravel roads
mostly and a bit of mudding, so it's not working that hard. I thought
that it was the nut holding the clutch on that was backing off, but
now know that after the splines disappear, the inner face free wheels,
and wears, not allowing the cooling and eventually will grenade the
belt. Seems as if the outer face is driven by a hardened steel plate
with splines and the inner face is driven by the soft aluminum splines
machined into the face. Because of this I've been opening up the cover
and inspecting on it every few hundred K, a total pain. Even that hasn't helped.
Another challenge I face is I live in a remote location accessable by air and a long train ride only, so
dropping by the dealer for warrenty is a very expensive option. Any
input would be greatly appreciated. This machine is otherwise awesome.
Thanks, T.
