When ordering replacement parts from the dealer...
#1
I made some modifications on my King Quad, which made it necessary to remove the "speedometer back cover" and the "shifter *****". I have had both items off before and replaced them with the use of thread locking chemicals. I've mentioned in this forum in the past about use of the correct Loc-Tite Product, so as not to have to destroy your parts just to remove them the next time if need be.
I ordered a new speedo back cover and one new shifter **** to replace the ones I destroyed while trying to get them off after I used the wrong Loc-Tite.
I checked at three different dealers all within twenty-five miles of my house and got three different prices for the same part. Prices ranged from $9.95 to $21.95 for the cover and $3.95 to $11.95 for the ****. The most popular dealer (within city limits) had the least prices. The dealer farthest out (outside city limits) was the most expensive for one item and the same for the other with respect to the third dealership's prices. Delivery was basicly the same from all.
I chose to order from the dealer closest to my house since he wasn't that much more exspensive, over the popular dealer. The cover was the same price but the **** was five or six dollars more.
It took ten days to get the cover and four weeks to get the ****.
The covers are readily available here in the States, at somebody's warehouse but the ***** have to come from Japan. At least, that's what I'm thinking.
This is the third speedo cover I've had on my '99 KQ! The first one, I lost on the trail after I didn't use any thread locking devise when I replaced it. The second one broke at the screw hole (right side). This one(third) is broken in the same place and I have repaired it by placing a metal sleeve inside the opening, glue it in place then screw it to the bracket. I believe the second and third covers broke while srewing the covers back on. The thin plastic wall that the screw goes through to attach the cover to the bracket gets fractured when tightening then it's only a matter of time when it breaks off. I can't see any other way this would happen. If you have any ideas, lets have them. Frankly, I think Suzuki, knows this is a problem but don't have any intention of fixing it because no one complains. Could be wrong but not convinced yet...
