85 Suzuki 230 shaft drive problem
#1
Hi All
Need a little help with a 85 Suzuki 230 shaft drive. Is there a check valve for the trans/crankcase breather? I getting a lot of oil in the air box (1 pint) also out the long vent up by the bars. I checked the fill level line on the right case wasn't over filled. Hope it doesn't have a broken ring? Seams lazy too like timing is not advancing?
But it starts right up on the electric & pull.

The CDI controls the ignition timing, so there is no way for that to be off or not advance. The pickup coil tells the cdi when TDC is and the cdi makes the decision when to send out a spark.
You have bad rings and are probably not too hard to find in the trails..... Just follow the white cloud. The rings are allowing blowby to force oil up the breather tubes. Like you said, the rings may even be broken. A bore job with piston will probably set you back around $250.
I don't know anything about a check valve in the breather. Never heard of that before.

Thanks Randy
I found the problem, As i said i just bought this 230 from a guy that couldn't keep it running and no power. I was mistaken of the oil level, there was just about 4 Qt's of Gear oil (90W) in the crank case! I drained the case changed oil filter added 1500CC and it fixed all the problems.
Now it pulls hard and the air box is dry.

I was wondering,,, but you said the oil was right. Good you found the problem.</end quote></div>
But the wrong weight (90) Gear oil. It calls for 10/30 SAE..

Ok... I was just saying in case you didn't know.
I use the cheap stuff and change it regularly to get the metal particles out and install a new filter. Synthetic is rich man's oil.
