LT250R Overhaul Project
#231
I had a girl on the back of my quad which was deff maxing out its weight limit between the two of us, I have no rear brake caliper and balledish front tires....we were going to stall out at the top of a large sand hill so I came to a stop and held the front brakes. Not enough tread on the fronts to hold the machine at such a steep angle so it dragged trenches backwards down the hill we started picking up speed and I had to curve around a bend backwards with her on the back which I made it around most of but ended up going off the edge sideways and rolled down the hill into the woods. I threw her off as I rolled off the edge with the machine and it toppled over me at least twice before it landed on me, could have been sooo much worse. I burnt my leg on the fatty pipe then dragged it through the sand so road rash on top of a burn, also my right hand was really swollen and still is...the ER said they could not see a break but something HAS to be fractured I can't pick anything up or put pressure on my pointer finger so my primary will look tomorrow and take more xrays:

From your description it does sound like it could have been much worse. I hope your female co-rider escaped without injury. How bad off is the quad?
As a rule I don't ride double on a single rider machine anymore. My old yamaha timberwolf used to routinely lug me and a rider on flat level ground only. Never would I have attempted even the slightest of climbs with a rider on the back. One close call and that was all it took to get me to follow the no passenger rule. No matter how much they beg for a ride, no matter how safe you think it is, no matter how "hot" she is
you should just refrain from plopping 2 adult butts on a sport quad.
I don't mean to rant and you've probably figured all this out by now...
All that being said...heal up quick so you can hit the trails again before winter!

Lesson learnt
yeah she was pretty hot; hard to refrain.
I was thinking though... I could have let the clutch out and stalled it in gear to lock up the rear wheels and I bet we would have made it!
My machine miraculously survived well, some scratches and a broken rear fender bracket that's it!!

lol well...you see...it was just a quick ride I don't race or jump, plus my helmet smelt like *****. I never wear boots just steel toe sneakers at the most and jeans, gear is too bulky I'm small.
