LT80 roller and clutch shoe mod...
#1
So I opened the side case for the first time tonight. Everything looks good. Removed the oil injection gear and black plastic nut off the crank? The removing of the rollers was fairly straight foward. Went from 6 down to 4, packed some quality grease in there since it loked a bit lgiht from the factory. Is that OK to do? The side of that roller cover is razor sharp and I cut my finger open on it. Warning for anyone else trying it.
The thing that confuses me is the clutch shoes on the rear, I have it disassembled. 2?'s... (one) what size socket is that large nut that holds that main piece on? 34mm??? (two) what am I doing to get them down to 180 grams? Are you drilling holes in the sides where those existing holes are? I found pics by etondaddy on another site, can't find any pics explaining this mod in detail.

Do it just like etondaddy.
Glad you found those pics.
You cut the ends off and drill to fine tune the weight.
Grease: I only use a dab of grease and that's basically to help hold the roller in place durring installation.
Zuki packed em tight for years and finally wised up in 05 and used lil to no grease.

Can you hurt performance or screw something up by using too much grease in there with the rollers?
Don't feel comfortable just cutting away on the shoes, do you have a picture of the cut/modded shoe? How much material are we talking?
Also what is the best way to get that nut off the assembly? Size?

The grease get's thrown out all over the clutchs.
Shoes:: cut thwem off about3/8 inch from the pad. Then drill the bottom (I use a 1/2" drill bit) to fine tune the weight.
The nut is but it is LEFT hand threaded.
If it's a old LT the nut size is 1 1/4
Newer LT's 1 5/16
If your worried about it, just send it to me.

Nah, the grease really flings around? Not with the o ring and everything? You;'d think with those moving parts the more the better...
Left handed, so righty loosey and lefty tighty?
I will have to go pick up a 1 5/15 socket, not a 34mm?
What do you charge to do the mod?
Prices for carb and cylinder work?

Just got done with the mod, I guess you need to be careful with where you cut. The show needs that small hole to sit on the wheel properly. I imagine if you trim too much you can damage that rest area on the shoe. Had do drill 1/2 hole all the way through and one where the existing hole was but not all the way through as to not damage where the spring sits. Trimmed about 1/4 inch off the end and got down to 185 grams. I'll keep you posted after my first ride. Thanks for all your help Jack.

Yeah, it seems he helps a lot of people on a few different forums.
It's not everyday you find a person willing to help others and asks for nothing in return. You can bet if I ever get in too deep or need work done he will be my guy.
