'Grats on the new Zuk!

Upgrades tend to be a personal choice. I would ride it a few times at least and then address any areas you feel could be better. A quality belly/swingarm skid is tops for trails, not so necessary in the dunes for example. For tires anything in the ITP Holeshot or Maxxis Razr style tend to be great all around tires. Kenda Klaws are reversible for hard or soft terrain. I only buy 6 ply for trail durability. For Silver Lake if you like to carve corners go with a V-paddle. You should be able to get up the dunes with knobbies just fine though.

Not to bring you down, but there were some problems with the 03 Z400 cracking the shock mounts and some other tabs when jumped hard, take a quick look to make sure there aren't any cracks or stress marks on the metal (paint crack/peeled at welds or junctions) They do sell gusset kits to beef up all the weak spots and makes it much stronger.

well if your gonna be hitting the hills in 5th wide open i think i agree with 95wolv.. also check the steering head.. i read a post where someone on a lt230 was about to take his quad out to play in the snow and the steering stem just snapped right off leaving him holding the handlebars...lol .. . . you may also want to think about picking up some good riding gear and a good helmet never hearts .. :-)

Paddles are not a "have to". We went to Glamis with stock tires that were close to bald. Went everywhere.
Can you even hit 5th gear at SL before hitting the boundary?? <EG>
I run Maxxis.
