Default Lt80

Hi everyone,
I have 2 LT80's now and both of them seem to have low top speed compared to some the others that ride with us. They both accelerate really well but are a good bit slower than the others. I have checked the gearing and they are both on the standard sprockets 10 front and 22 rear. Can anyone shed any light as to what could be the problem?

cheers

the LT80 I believe comes from the factory with a couple of items installed to limit top speed. The first is a small brass ring on the end of the throttle cable inside the carb (this keeps the carb from opening all the way and stops it about 3/4) the other is a ring on the transmission keeping the gear belt from getting all the way to the top of the gear. Remove these two items and you will awaken a beast.

I have never done this mod to mine as my 5 year old daughter is the pilot. However, from what I understand if you remove the side cover to expose the transmission gears, you should see a spacer that stops the belt from getting all the way up on the highest gear. I am sure LT-80 will correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks very much for your help Durby but it appears that the spacer has already been removed from both bikes. Im at a loss as to how they can rev so hard and have so little to speed. What are the chances of clutch slip on these and if so whats the best way of fixing it?

Sorry..
There is no belt limiting devise on a LT80.
The 2nd restrictor is a washer between the cylinder and pipe that limits the exhaust.
Unless wet or oily the belt don't slip.

I had a machine here that ran like yours.."ok". For some reason I tried another carb and it took off like a raped ape.
