05 400 eiger is driving me crazy
#51
All of the ignition parts have been in it for years and were working fine. I already closed it motor back up so I don't have a clue as to what brand anything is in there. I know the previous owner(his grandpa) had a bunch of work done to it while he had it and he took it to the dealer he bought it from when he needed anything done to it. I'll check the valve clearance and the timing this weekend and make sure all of that is good. If after that those check out good where do I stand? rebuild the top end? Fuel system? CDI? I guess I need to make sure all is well this weekend with the upper end of the motor... Thanks Papa

My take is put a new carb kit with a Dynojet main valve and needle seton third notch. About 80% of the problems with Eigers has been with carbs.
Renegade another casein point. But again my opinion only.

I'm all for trying anything but what brand carb kit? I saw that someone else had problems with a moose(I think) brand kit, I believe it was the jet needle was different(bad maybe?). I've been wanting to give that cleaning method with the lemon juice a try anyways. I'm still going to check the valve clearance and timing this weekend but If I can get a recommendation on which kit to get I'll get him to get one coming.

Just call your closest zuki dealer and ask for the carb rebuild kit for your model. Now to get the best, the main jet and needle would preferably be a Dynojet kit where the needle has notches (third notch) and different jet sizes. Suzuki only sells the#122 main jet making the quad to run lean to start with. I used #126 and when cold it warms faster with faster throttle response. So in the end a carb kit goes for around $25.00 and a Dynojet kiit for $54.00.
All this said provided as you mentionned verify your valves and timing and of course assuming your gaz delivery is clean via gaz tank via petcock via carburetor.
Good luck

ok... sorry it took so long for me to reply... I wrecked my truck and had to get my race truck street legal to get back and forth to work. It turns out that I knew someone with the same year eiger and his runs great. I got with him a few hours ago and swapped the cdi from his to this one and walla! She runs great again. I ordered him a cdi a little bit ago so it turns out that a $400 part was all that was wrong with it
but I never got around to checking the timing or the valve clearance, but all seemed well with a known working cdi installed. I will probably get to checking those two things this weekend but if not I believe it'll be fine either way. Thanks again for all the help EVERYONE. I've learned a great deal about this 4wheeler for future reference. And I know it'll come in handy because it was his grandpa's and he's since deceased so I know he'll have it for quite a while. Thank You Thank You Thank You!
