Newbie With Questions
Hi Gang,
First post here.
I am looking for a Quad and could use some advice.
I want something I could use to trail ride with my daughter. I don't need to go 90mph and I wont be hauling anything heavy.
Is an Eiger 400 a good choice? I would like to keep the price around 2,500 to 3,000. What other Quads might be a fit? I want reliability.
Here is an 04 Eiger 400 for 2,900. It has 300 original miles on it. Would this fit the bill?
Suzuki 4x4 atv 2004
How much is a 2 up seat?
Do these Quads come with skid plates, or is that another expense to think about?
Thanks for any input guys!

the eiger is basically still being made today, but now has fuel injection and different plastics. its now called the king quad 400. from what ive read they are a very reliable atv. I have ridden one , but it was years ago. the biggest thing I remember was it was pretty cold blooded until it warmed up. for what you are looking to do it should serve you well.
the eiger in question that you posted looks to be near mint condition, but I think hes priced a bit high. id offer him no more then $2500 and walk

Can't tell from the photo if it is Auto or manual, both have good and bad points but at 300 miles from new and a winch fitted I wouldn't think the price is too far out, check how much a new 400KQ is. Autos are low geared, even in high, but if you are not used to quads you may not notice. Hard used manuals will wear a clutch out every three years or so. With so little use, both front and back brakes may be partially seized, it may be best to get them checked out.

A 400 is plenty for 2 up riding, however a little free advice. The single rider machines are going to put your daughters' weight behind the rear axle. This makes the machine more unstable, perhaps tragically so on steeper hills and off cambers. Additionally, they don't have the footpegs for a passenger. Many riding destinations will not let you ride 2up with thia setup. There are 2up specific machines out there that are much safer. You will have to be patient in your search unless you can handle buying new.
A few alternatives, buy an age and size appropriate machine for your daughter as well, or possibly even look into some of the side by sides. Both solutions are more "fun" to me than riding on the back of a 1up unit.

It will be hard to find a side by side in the $3000 price range. I did find a Can-Am Outlander 400 Max(2 seater) once in the $3000 price range so it is possible to find a capable 2 seat atv in that price range. Another option might be a 2 seater buggy. Something like Hammerhead Buggy 2012 would work. The only disadvantage is these type of buggies are not 4x4 but they have enough room for both of you to ride safely and the 250cc and up versions have sufficient power as well. Put a good set of tires on one of these and they can be pretty good trail machines.
