LT250 Problems Still...
Howdy again, sill having problems my 87 Quadracer. My symptoms are high-rev surging sometimes when it's idling. I say sometimes, because it doesn't surge constantly, only once in awhile when idling. The other day she was idling nicely, and after about 5 seconds she started going up and up and up and was at like 10 grand rpms. So it's very dangerous and I need to get it fixed ASAP. Some people thought it was an air leak in my last post, and that's very possible, but it would probably be doing it all of the time and not run right if it was an air leak. I talked to someone and they think it is most likely an internal carb problem like a pin or a spring or something small that just wrongs the air/fuel mixture. Or it may be a cracked/split reed. Tell me your thoughts and opinions again please. Thanks

WHat does you spark plug look like?, If whitish it's obviously really lean and BAD!! So I would think either its bad seals, wrong air/fuel mixture or you have an air leak.
Those are my thoughts, hope they help
Anyone else that has a Zilla might be able to help.

thanks fellas. i'm gunna do a gasket check on the reed gasket today and if it's not that i'm going to check out the reed, if it's not the reed i'm going to have a full engine gasket set and a carb kit put in er. Not too expensive, and would have to fix the problem. thanks

I had a similiar problem, too with my '92. I couldn't find a cheap rebuild kit for the Mikuni carb so I bought a stock Honda 250R Keihin 34mm PJ carb (on ebay $50) to put on it. It was tricky adapting the throttle cable since OEM Keihin cable hookups are slightly different than aftermarket ones, but I got it working. The bike runs much better know overall and I don't have that random surging problem either. The Keihin carbs seem to have fewer moving parts and a simpler float system than the Mikuni 34mm. I do have a Boysen RAD valve on it, too. That combo had given me reliable and predictable performance. It's hard to say that your problem is exactly due to the carb, but it's possible.
