Let me get this straight. You have a quad (God knows what make or model, you never said) with a belt drive and you say your manual says that the "vbelt and pulleys need to be lubed".
1st. How am I (or andybody else on this forum for that matter) suppost to know what your working on? Could be a 40 Ford for all I know!!!
2nd. No manual in the world is going to tell you to "lube a vbelt". So that tells me one of two things: You did not read the manual, or you did not understand, or misinterpreted it. It might tell you to lube the sliders but definitely not the vbelt.
I would be glad (along with many other people in here) to help you. But I'm neither a mind reader or know what the manual says unless you tell me the true and full story here.
That being said; to help you, we need 1. the make and model of quad your working on. And 2. "exact" wording in the manual where it talks about "lubing the vbelt". Once we have this info I'm sure myself or someone else will be glad to help you out.

thank you kodiak660. That being said it is a Kodiak 400 I have lubed the slide with lithium grease on my own assumption. Is there anything else I should consider? 2K3 Kodiak 400 ultramatic transmission

The yamaha service manual says to use Grizzly grease, which has been superseeded by the Ultramatic grease. All yamaha dealers will have this.
Others have used marine grease (its very water resistant), and ive used mobile one grease, and it seems to do just fine. Whatever you use, make sure its water resistant.
