1999 Polaris Sportsman, What would the ultimate Build up be?
Alright, I have a 1999 Polaris Sportsman 500 that is in need of a build up. I have got a new belt in there, 25" x 9" Vampires up front and 25x12 Titan 589M/S in Back. I have a Warn winch up front.
I am looking for added performance and reliabilty, any suggestions? Obvisously a pipe, clutch kit, re-jet the carb. Any one ever do a cylinder work to them? Bore them out? Stroke them? Bigger cam? Any one have any infor on a build up like this?
Also what are some other good ATV Forums?

first i would repost this in the polaris forum if you havent already. i would try to find out how much power gain you'll get for the price. since the 99 isnt an HO. model find out what the differnce is to having i think maybe 8 more hp but not sure, the cam is differnt is all im sure about and maybe a bigger carb.

I just did the motor in my 97 Sportsman500. Put the HO cam(scrambler cam) and a Weisco piston .5mm over and I'm very happy with the results. Aaen website say about 7hp increase, it is ver noticable. Kept the small carb and played with the secondary clutch some, no pipe.

The H.O is a higher duration cam (Scramblers cam) and the carb was changed from a 34mm to a larger 40mm carb. I,m sure the cam is really what wakes the motor up out of the two changes. I would not bother with the carb change, not worth the time and money IMO.
