I was wandering if a 2000 kodiak could be
competitive at the grand national cross country races against the team kawi pararie.
If it had a big bore and other mods.
what do you think or would any thing else
that is totally shaft driven front and back
be better.

I don't think they make a Big Bore kit for the 2000 Kodiak yet. But other than the Wolverine, I can't think of a better 4x4 for cross country racing.

 

How are things going Utility Racer? Your going to run the utility devision in the GNCC? I ran the first three races in the GNCC in 99 The first two I rode a Grizzly, yes I said a Grizzly! and the third race a Wolverine. Modify a Wolverine if your going with a Yamaha, I found out there is more to these races than speed. Good luck!

 

Mike Penland, Rides for Team Kawasaki and
uses a Praire 400(modified) as a Privateer
he used a Wolverine, despite what some
so called Writer wrote in a Certin ATV rag,
Mike Penland liked the Wolverine, and in his
"Wrench this" Feature in ATV Sport(as good as the ATV mags Get), He says nothing but
Good about the Wolverine, or the Praire for that matter(actualy "Wrench This" is a Department).

Mr Penland, in an free choice situation, used a Grizzly in the last Baja.

He Won the Sportsman Class(which pertains
to Utility Class, not the Quad itself, although there were no doubt some present)

He won, there was from what I observed little
mention of that in the Mags, uncool
on their part, because the Sportsman/Utility
Class represents the everyday man, the vast
Majority of Quad Buyers and Riders.

Hardcore Off-Road, Speed/Thrill Junkies, mainly go to
M/X,GNCC Dirtike in that season, Snowcross for that time.

Don't believe me! Check out the Stats on
ATV racing vs M/X, S/X, Enduro, and Snowcross, on an event by event basis.

GNCC Utility racing needs more coverage, and
better Promotion.

Okay, off the Soapbox(Tide)

Back to the Kodiak, It has Shocks all around,
like the Wolverine, which dose give you
more Suspension options.

The Motor can(I've been told)be brought up to near YZ400F Specs, utilizing the 5-Valve Head, Cylinder(JUG), and Ignition off a 98.

May be Expensive, but You will have some
Serious POWER, to go with the Excellent handling, and decent stock suspension(if you wish to stay stock).

Well i bit the bullett and purchased a kodiak
Im currentlynworking on a 500cc big bore/stroker for it we will see if it can stand up to the test HOPE SO.

Let us know what modifications you make to the machine and approximate cost. I would be intrested in checking out to see if the 5 valve head and other accessories would improve the performance of the Kodiak. I bought mine in November. I hope it performs to your expiations. The 2000 Grizzly would be the best, biggest and fastest engine. The top end can't be beat by any other utility Quad, and it has a very good suspension with great handling. Oh ya and it will finish the race. Ha!

 

If you could use a scrambler they are fast but they have a chain so they are probably not aloud. that paririe is the baddest utlity atv i have ever seen

 

The 500cc kit, may NOT be needed.

If brought up tp YZ-F/WR standards, I believe
the Kodiak will move Quickly, fact is
you will probably outrun your stock suspension, if you decide to go WFO.

i think a good croscoutry atv would be the
honda rancher and the honda rubicon 500 but
it hasn't came out yet and the honda rancher
bet the kodiak
