Great info Bad. I like the idea of keeping it like a hunting lease. I like the fact that everyone will have to be involved in running the area. That means work weekends and everyone taking time to clean there camp sites after there day of riding. Thats not to hard to do. If you bring a group then you will be responsible to let everyone know about the policys or they will not be invited back. Pretty sure most of us hunt or fish as another past time so they will understand why we need to respect the area. Hiring a few locals in the area would help smooth things over with the town involved. Pay them a wage to collect fees and to ride around and make sure that the rules are being followed.

Im sure that word will spread quickly about the new riding area. Then we will have a problem similar to what Barney faces in parking and how to control everyone. Always a few bad eggs in every bunch. We will have to deal with each instance as it occurs.

Are we decided that we are going to be a non profit organization. If not how would we go about dividing the money. Most of the funds from the first year or so would have to be put right back into the place.

There should be enough of us members that one or more of us will be there just about every weekend.

Hello. I am new to the forums. But I have been looking at these forums for a while now and never joined. But this thread made me join! I am intersted in joining the cause to find somewhere else to ride other than LA DUNES. I like it and everything but that is THE ROUGHEST sand in the world!!! AND He is nuts for even thinking about going up on his prices! I would be willing to pay to be in your club to ride in some good places (gotta have some sand!). I think that we can make this happen.

Awhile back, we used to ride in this place in Mississippi. Pretty nice sized place with a river running thru the middle of it and pretty nice sized hills - about 3x the size of the "dunes" in forrest hill. It had trails and camping (with cabins) too, a fire road that you could get some serious speed on, and miles of river beach. It was a riders' paradise! I know its in MS. but I'll see if I can find out whos got it now.

The best thing we can do is to name our club and follow up as non /not for profit org. then we can step into the rates that we are charging as if unable to get and state assistance we will need some type of income generated to the area .

Maybe the Club name could be somthing on the order of Louisiana Outdoor Sports Club
or something along those lines..
I feel that maybe if we leave the name sort of ambiguous, it just may help secure leases around the state. If we were to use something like THE LOUISIANA SAND DRAGGERS I think alot of property owners will instantly have images of people destroying the property and always getting hurt.. just a thought..

I have some calls to make tommorrow, and that visit to make Friday.. I have alot of advantages to offer these people, but we have to see what their attitudes are.. I am going at them as a group of families and a few responsible single adults that want to obtain a lease to some acreage to be used for hunting, fishing, trail riding and swimming. I want to be as benign as possible.

I guess I am so excited about this place that I dont even want to start making any sort of plans until I get a read on this property owners attitude. I will post something hopefully Friday night.

The property has not been cared for, as for as clearing underbrush and because of the highway nearby, there has been a little dumping of old vacuum cleaners and hot water heaters and the like, I will extend the offer to clean the place up, pay a lease, carry insurance on the club members, promise to help control tresspassing, and bring some income to the local economy by patronizing the nearby conviencence store.

I will, at this point, tell you all this, I am a Deputy here in Baton Rouge, which is close to this property. I have about 30 other Deputies that are avid ATVers that are already committed if we can pull this off. This will be a family friendly deal, no matter where I find property to do it.. and I WILL find some property SOMEWHERE in the Amite river basin. Alot of us have kids and while none of us object to having a good time around a campfire, I dont believe it would be a good idea to allow the MardiGras atmosphere that The Dunes has tolerated..... I am sure many of your remember the naked guy that rode that way one Saturday night up there.
I am sure anybody that would make the effort to participate in work days and pay dues would understand that it becomes OUR club and we all lose if somebody abuses the place.. unlike the Dunes, where nobody cares..

This property is located about 20 miles northeast of Baton Rouge, but that really is a moot point until we see what the owners think.

Thanks guys, and gals.

And listen guys, dont take my work here as an indication that if one of you find a good spot, that I am not willing to travel,, it is just easy for me to ask friends and look at maps here to do the research.. I am willing to go to MS if somebody can find an area there.. I really dont mind driving 2-2 1/2 hours each way for a long weekend of camping and riding.. as long as I have 110 for my A/C ;-)

yall keep up the good work and get on the phone...

remember the best deals will not have "for lease" on them.. you gotta stop the car, get out, and go knock on some doors..

I know I kinda invited myself to the forum and no one knows me or really gives a crap, but I definitley think it's on the right track. These people have got to know that even though its sand and stuff on their land, that it will be taken care of by responsible people who will not cause a drunken, out of control ruccus every day.

You know, I forgot the name of it but there is a new $45 book that you can buy that goes over all the legalities and such of starting an ORV/ATV park. I'm trying to get the name for you. I'm gonna get one too.
