If I had 10K to lend, my quad would be faster than it is!

Just remember that you will be violating Washington state law to be a Washington resident and have tabs from Oregon on your vehicle. I believe the fine is $112 for the first offense and if you get caught again it goes up at least double every time you get written up. So Washington tabs on your truck or trailer and Oregon tabs on your quad is an invite to a fat fine. Besides DNR doesn't directly get the money from the ORV tabs. They have to apply for it for specific projects.
Aww our corrupt Government.. Collect money stating its for a cause and spend it elsewhere. the biggest group of Lying Douchebags around. Washinton state Government.

And why not have dual Residences? I know a few people that keep current liscenses in multiple states. So you just carry your oregon liscense while riding your quad
What are you talking about? "Collect money stating its for a cause and spend it elsewhere" The DNR does not get the off road funds. If they have a project they apply for the funds and the money will be approved or not. The money is in a fund for OHV projects and they can't steal it for other projects, that was part of the law that increased the fees. If you have protperty in both states, you don't get dual residency, it not like dual citizenship; the state where you earn your living is where you live, the other state is a vacation property.

At least they understand that our sport contributes to their overall economy and even INVEST in their ORV areas to improve and maintain them to keep them OPEN! I wonder if this doorknob of a Public Lands Commisioner, Doug Sutherland, is up for re-election next week?

First of all, who says I intend to ride in Washington again? Oregon does not require registration in Oregon to get an ORV license. So I am paying Oregon to ride in Oregon. I have the title to my quad, proving ownership and paying the taxes on the purchase. The point of tabs is, supposedly, to pay for usage of the areas my tires are going to hit the ground. Since I already pay enough property taxes to cover my quads being on my property, I am covered here. I am thinking that investing my money in the state that is going to support my recreational choice is my best way to NOT support this kind of garbage. I don't ride off trail, I respect the areas I ride and try to leave them better than I found them. If by nothing more than picking up garbage on my way through, sometimes trail maintenance. Not as much as I could, but at least something.
Try tagging the doorknobs that are causing the problems instead of punishing me for abiding by the law. I won't ride up there now that it's closed, but the ones that created the problems to begin with probably still will? So who exactly is paying for their infractions?

I also believe that an armed society is a polite society and gun control is using both hands. So that's enough ranting on politics from me. I am out!

You only have to buy the Oregon OHV sticker to ride certain places down there, otherwise your Washington registration is enough. Too many people want to use the sand near the ocean, so you get surcharged. If you go to Christmas Valley and ride the sand there you don't need the Oregon surcharge sticker. The choice of where to ride is yours, but at the price of fuel, you are penalizing yourself if you live here and ride only there. You have a representive in the state government, call him up and bitch about it. If enough people do the DNR will change their position. That decision isn't written in stone.

"I also believe that an armed society is a polite society and gun control is using both hands." I also believe this and this is why I always go armed, everyday.

In fact, there are several places where they are doing logging that the signs direct you to take the roads to connect to the trail at a different place. When Bear, RealtorRider and I went on a ride a few months ago, we ran into this. So, I think it's lousy that the guy got a ticket and hope he fights it. Who gave him the ticket: DNR, Thurston County Sherriff, State Patrol?
The guy just told me, we couldn't ride the state roads and that he had gotten ticketed the week prior, don't know who ticketed him.
Larry the DNR maps tell you in the legend which roads are legal to ride on and a lot of them are legal to ride on. The cop was probably wrong and the only guys that should be up there writing tickets are the DNR guys or an assigned off road officer with the Sheriff Dept. and I don't believe Thurston County even has one.

The DNR guys at Tahuya are known softie and he is wrong, if you are an Oregon resident here visiting they are good. For a Washington resident they are illegal. If the Mason County Offroad deputy sees you, you will be lucky to get off with a warning. I have seen him tell people they can't ride if the bike is in the parking lot. If on the trail he writes.

I am really angry with the recent dnr closures. Most of this is caused by extremist environmentalists. Take for instance the North Fork Nooksack area - for many that have visited the area and seen the river, they noticed the river is heavily silted by natural causes such as glacier runoff and natural erosion. The additional impact caused by orv's is so minimal to the overall health of the river that is unfortunate for DOE to blame a small user group for that rivers problems and keep us from public land that we enjoy.

Quote from DNR Letter:
"State Department of Ecology shorelands specialist Jerry Shervey spoke of the environmental impacts to these two areas:” Keeping unauthorized off-road vehicles out of these areas is good for the environment," he said. “While it might be fun to splash through a creek or wetland, these activities cause bank erosion and stir up sediments that negatively affect water quality, and can harm important fish species, such as salmon and trout.”

Please share your comments with me and if you would like to contact Jerry Shervey of DOE his email address is gshe461@ecy.wa.gov, and his phone number is 425-649-7098

I thought abuot that last time I went & got tabs TO GO TO OREGON thats the only place we really need them it seems, so WHY NOT contribute to them!!!
And it looks like that kills riding up by Darrington, too? Isn't the second area out there, DM?

AND they are already talking seriously about shutting down REITER next.

I CAN'T make my quad street legal, but I still have to pay tabs like they are AND have ever decreasing areas to legally ride. NOT to mention the TAXES we pay on the purchase of new or used quads and every single PART or upgrade we buy at local shops.
Dang I hope NOT adctually Darrington is in Skagit county but I'm sure SOMEONE will be biotchin'

Oh yeah just a friendly reminder for all you who OWN homes..................property taxes are due today BLAHHHHHH there's a nice chunk o change that could of been used for quads
My taxes and my insurance is included in my monthly payment so I don't need to worry about them twice a year.
I think that is the difference between owning the home, and buying the home.
My home is worth 4 times what I owe, so that means I am only buying 25% of it and I own the rest!
Just another thought, do we ever really OWN our home since the Govt. tells us what we can and can't do with our home and property?
Yeah t his is true do we ever REALLY own it?!! heck our property taxes seem to go up almost every year!! Not by much but still go up, now that ALL the houses are being I can just imagine!!!! And YES Snohomish county is a PIA about permits ect too *rollseyes"
