CALIFORNIA Quad Riders report here.....

Carnegie is a bit far for me for a day ride. I think I'll be sitting this one out. One guy wants to ride on Sunday, but I prefer going out Saturday. Not such a rush to get home.

I'll keep an eye out for you! Another two friends are supposed to come out early Sunday morning to join us too, so there might be a pick-up truck parked with us as well (white or silver?) We can't wait to go out either after the rain ruined our plans last weekend!
We always take our dogs with us (one reason we bought the RV), and out in open desert areas like Stoddard, I've never even heard of any "dog rules". I just know it's always been ok to bring dogs. We make a point to always keep ours under control and make sure they don't bother other campers. When we're outside, they're outside usually tied out on long ropes. If there's not a lot of people around, we'll usually let one of our dogs (who doesn't take off) off her leash, but not the other one. I also take them out for many long walks during the day so they (and I) get enough exercise to keep them happy. They sleep inside the RV with us at night so they're not barking & keeping other people awake. There's nothing that pisses me off more than when people are camped right by us and they let their dogs wander off-leash 24/7 and don't watch them at all as they're coming over into our camp every minute, driving our dogs nuts, and wandering out into trails/roads where they could be hit by riders/trucks.
When we all go for a ride (and no one is left at camp), we lock the dogs up inside the RV (with the a/c on, of course, if it's hot). They know the routine and just take a nap while we're gone.
Hope to see you guys out there!

Went riding today at Carnegie State OHV park Met mstquad and mywifesquad there Had a great time riding with them Hopefully next time, we can ride longerWeather was great for riding When my daughters, mstrquad and his family found the mud it was like pulling teeth to get them to leave Initially had problems starting our mojave Time for a major tune-up. But after an hour all was well All in All, a very nice day
Anyways, posted some new pics Bought a yearly pass and plan on riding there a lot

Hey Gang,
My first trip into this California Forum! Man, it can take some TIME to wade through all these posts!
I'm looking for some suggestions for a riding area that my wife and I can hit on our Polaris Utes. We're 10 minutes from Pole #2 at Oceano Dunes but after mid-March, we only ride out there on a weeknight when the Hooligan's are gone....sorry, it's just a Locals thing! What I'm really looking for is a place like a National Forest or something similar where we can camp and just get out and cruise the roads and less technical trails. I'm not afraid to get a little technical but my wife has not ridden much at all so I don't want to freak her out, she needs to build up slowly and get some riding confidence first. We would prefer mountainous areas, trees, maybe water nearby, as well as less crowded spaces so we don't have to worry about running into others. I hunt in an area south of Lake Isabella, Piuute Mountains, Jawbone Canyon (D9) and wondered if that area is OK to ride in? What are the legalities of riding on these unpaved National Forest roads....are you OK if you have a green sticker or do you have to stick to just the smaller marked trails?
Would appreciate any suggestions and info anyone has to offer...I'd like to get out real soon before the scorching hot weather hits!

Tree Doc what I need to know is....Where did you get the Pink Flamigo i've been looking for one of those for ages......Ok as far as the riding goes, the Hollister Hills would be a great place to start your wife out trail riding 60 some odd miles of trails most of them are one way and there are camp grounds..the trails are rated from green easiest , Blue intermediate and the black diamond about 3 hrs up 101 from where you are now. Ive got that section of 101 down I am one of the Hooligans that make it down to Pismo at least once a month

TeeBone, you dune riding Hooligan! Man, you have a great eye for the Flamingo! Those Flamingos are AT LEAST twenty three years old! I've had them since the "old days" when my buddy and I ran our Jet boat at Elsinore every Saturday. They were a staple at our day camp. I know these are still around however because I have seen them in my travels. Try a garden center, I think that's where I bought mine way ack when. I'll keep my eyes open to help you out, buddy!
As for Hollister, I suppose we could give it a try. My perception of Hollister is one that is similar to Pismo though, you know, lots of people, lot's of machines. That's cool, I would like to try it, I was just hoping for a little info on a place like a Nat'l Forest where we might not encounter a big concentration of people and maybe be able to partake in some other activities like target shooting and such.
Thanks for the reply!
EDIT: TeeBone, I'm helping you out here....follow the link, I found you some Flamingos and they close in 6 hours...they're only 1.99 a pair!!!

Hey Treedoc
Hows Pismo. I heard the river crossing was pretty tough. As far as trails riding at Jawbone and the suurounding area, there are literally thousands of miles of trails available to ATV's. There is approximately 10 sq miles of open (ride wherever you want, no questions asked) area in Jawbone Cyn, approximately 5 sq. miles of open area at Dove Springs (8 miles up Rte. 14 and also connected to Jawbone by ATV trails) and approximately 40 sq. miles of open area at Spangler Hills 40 miles NE of Jawbone (also connected to the other open areas by trails). In between those three open areas is an amazing array of trails from dirt roads to major pucker factor mountain climbs. If you go there stop at the Jawbone store or ranger station and buy the map published by the "Friends of Jawbone" , I wear out two or three of them every year.
We (my wife, daughter and myself) ride that area regularly and have just scratched the surface of available routes. There is also a lot of mines and western history mixed in. If you would like to hook up sometime and ride with us, please PM me with your email
