Default CALIFORNIA Quad Riders report here.....

FINALLY!! The maiden voyage in the new toyhauler is complete! I am sunburned, exhausted and am ready to do it all over again. We went to Stoddard and it was just awesome. Lots and lots of people there, more than I have ever seen. What was weird was that although there had to be at over 500 rigs (spread out over at least six miles of desert) there didn't seem to be too many folk on the main roads and Saturday night was not very loud. We hit the Slash X today - my daughter's first trip there. Clocked it at 15 miles from our camp, not bad for a 9 year old. Her 7 year old friend, her first time riding, rode the LT80 on the 15 mile trip back to camp (my daughter went with her mom in her SUV). All in all a great time.

I think I've got everyone convinced to hit Ocotillo Wells over Easter weekend. Anyone else going?

I went riding with powerstroke01 at Miami Trails and as usual we got ourselves into a really screwed up situation. LOL. We go UP this trail...ok, you first have to realize going UP the trails at Miami on a quad...is a BAD thing. We also didn't see the sign for the trail that said it was a Black Diamond. So we worked our way through it (including me getting towed through a section cause the ruts have magnets that just pull me in.) So, we get to this spot. It's about a 2' vertical spot. Washout below an erosion control section. We look past it and there's the flippin road. 10 FEET! So after some rock moving and pulling we got his lander over and towed my Warrior over it. It was at this point we noticed the trail was a black diamond.

It actually wasn't that bad. Half the blue quare stuff is worse!

Oh well. It's not a weekend of riding if we don't get ourselves into some screwed up situation.

If you want one that's tough, there are several. Just go "UP" most of them from the creak. That one wasn't even that bad. I can imagine how nice the other trails were when they were first given their difficulty ratings. There's some green trails that have some seriously nasty sections. It's kind of a shame that maintenance is non-existant. Makes you want to take a shovel, pick, etc with you and do a little work. But some of the ruts are over 2' deep.

In the areas that I normally ride, there is a enduro club that basically does all the trail maintainence in that trail system. It is kind if a trade off for getting to put on the race there.

I assume you're talking about Clear Creek. Too bad couldn't get something going at Miami. Hell, maybe we can. Hmmmm. They got the Cal. Conserv. Corps to do a lot of the work years ago.

B&R, I was reading a magazine at the doctors office today. In it, was an article about a guy who volunteers (and gets volunteers) to go in the forest, between Kings and Yosemite, to do maintance on trails. It says since 1995, his group has worked over 33,000++ hours on fixing trails Anyways, sounds like he was from Fresno area. On one of his last outings, he had over 100 volunteers helping out. Said, he's basically never been told "NO" and knows a lot of people in the Fresno area. Next week, I'll look for the article and get the name of his group for you. If your interested
