CALIFORNIA Quad Riders report here.....

Ridinfolks:
I used to go there 20 years ago, but haven't ridden there since. But, from all the research I've been doing (online) it's still what it used to be. I was just at a site about Rosarito Beach dated today that mentions ATVing at Cantamar and there are tour groups that offer trips there so I am assuming (not a good thing to do, I know!) that it is still open. I plan to call one of the tour groups just to verify or Rosarito tourism info before we make concrete plans! We used to have a blast! For those of you who have been to Oceana/Pismo it's just like that and with gorgeous weather the majority of the time. We go to Puerto Nuevo for lobster every so often which is close by but since we are new to ATVing have yet to hit Cantamar. Hmmmmmm, maybe we should do an overnighter this weekend.....
Hope we can hook up sometime soon!!

That's exactly what I did . . . checked Cantamar on the internet but could only find the "tours" you mentioned. We wanted to make sure we're allowed to bring/ride our "own" quads there, but then I just kind of put it on the back burner and forgot about it. I also worry if there will be a problem with us bringing our two dogs, since we bring them with us everywhere (they'd freak if we ever went without them somewhere in the motorhome!). Oohhhh, Puerto Nuevo . . . those lobster dinners are wonderful, and there's nothing like those fresh tortillas! We haven't been there in a few years. I always get nervous going into Mexico, but don't mind as much with my husband since he speaks fluent Spanish.

Any one here ever ridden at Frank Raines Park? it is located 25 miles west of Patterson, Ca. on Del Puerto Canyon Road. Off of I 5. FAQ on Frank Raines Park I live about 40 miles from it, yet I have only ridden there 2 times. I talked to a lady that said the park has never been closed because of weather. I may have found a new favorite winter riding area. Not to sure how Quad friendly it is, probubly depends on rider ability. I remember steep and rutted trails, very technical.

It really isn't quad friendly It's really a m/c heaven, if, you like climbing They had a major fire up there about 18 months ago. Right after that, they shut majority of it down for restoration. Which, it really needed anyways From what I've heard, only about 200-250 acres are open to legal riding. The parks department has been trying to buy/swap land adjoining to the park to expand They were making headway 3-5 years ago but, from what I have heard, nothing recently. If they ever finish this acquiring property and fencing it off, The park will have a loop, 5-8 miles long with with other roads cut in there too Then, it will be worth the trip. But, if you just want to get out and ride for a bit, It would be alright. Also, they close the gate to the off-road park at night. The campground is left open. And the camp ground is very nice Closure during the winter is only during heavy rain. And, it does snow up at the Buckeye ranch gate couple times a year

We're for sure heading over to Stoddard early Saturday morning and staying through Sunday. Also have another buddy in his RV going who wants to try out his new bike. We'll probably go in by the Slash X Cafe. If anyone's around - stop by and say hi. We'll be in the RV (white), pulling a white double-axle trailer with the 3 quads (listed below) in it. The Z400 is white, 400EX is red, and the 250EX is yellow. Also, our two black dogs should be easy to see. Our friends are bringing their dog too. No kids with us this weekend.
We haven't been to that part of Stoddard before (only off Wild Wash Rd.) so I imagine we'll just search around until we find a spot we like.
Everyone have a great weekend! No rain!

Hi RF, I've been out "unconnected" for work for a day or so.
I'm planning to go to Stoddard this weekend also, won't be able to make it out until Sunday though, Hope I run into you guys. I will be with my family and our friends from across the street. We'll probably bring his truck, a big white lifted Ford F250 with a shell, and I may bring my small truck also, a white Toyota Tacoma Double Cab with a "Semper Fi", "Desert Storm Vet" and a "NO Whining" sticker on the back. We'll be riding; my orange kfx, my kids red and green Kazumas, my buddies KTM (1992, not orange) and his wife's Polaris 250.
You say you bring your dogs with you. What are the "rules" for having dogs out there? We, both me and my neighbors, have dogs and might bring them.
I am so looking forward to getting out and riding Sunday, NO RAIN, NO RAIN, NO RAIN, NO RAIN!!!
