I'll be one of the ones at Carnegie next weekend. A decent group (size and otherwise) from your area (Dublin, Manteca, etc.) will be there.

I got the carb all cleaned up and the bike's running better. Solved the high idle problem. The carb was pretty dirty in there. Some from the fuel I think (there was actually dirt/mud in the bottom of the bowl) and also from me screwing up putting the air filter in last time (or was it the dealer?). Pulled some of the foam that seals to the air box and unfiltered (read DIRTY) air was going into the carb.

Cleaned the carb and put it back on and just set the fuel tank on the bike...still overflowed. So I went back, opened it all back up again. Couldn't get the float pin so I hit the float valve (or whatever its called) from the fuel tank side with a ton of carb cleaner and about 80psi of air. Put the bowl back on and tested it with the tank and it worked. No overflow. Put back in and started her up. Ran good.

But I think I'm either rich (dirty filter still needs a good cleaning) or a little bit of oil is getting in. Once she warmed up it stopped doing it. But that could be stuff expanding and sealing better (ie. toasted rings maybe?) Not sure. And I friggin stripped the screw holding the spark arrestor in. Want to clean that out.

Other things I did while I was in there:

Changed the throttle cable cover and bowl screws to 4x12mm allen head screws. I stripped two bowl screws. Only stock cover screws left are the top ones.
Swapped out the stock accelerator pump spring to a click pen spring. The pump was stuck open (dirty) as the spring didn't have the power to push it back out and was causing a high idle, I think.

I picked up a fuel filter to install, but there's not enough fuel hose room to mount it. Need to get some more and loop it around.

How should I do it? They gave me a filter that would fit on a Bug I guess from what the guy said. There just isn't enough room to get it in , and make the turn.

Got the new tires mounted today. Woohoo.

Sounds good M&R I agree I wouldn't loop the line. Get enough to put the filter in and run it that way. If it has a loop in it, sounds like your asking for trouble(fuel starvation)

I'm gonna have to figure something out. When I was going to loop it, it was more like a cork screw going down type of loop. Not a vertical roller coaster type of loop.

The fuel line makes a long 90 turn. About a 4-6" radius bend from the petcock to the fuel inlet on the carb. mstrquad should be familiar with it. Wonder if I can get some fuel safe plastic tubing in an L shape. Or trim the plastic of the filter down some. I've got some hose clamps for it.

So now I'm M&R?

What's up peoples.
Been watching this forum for a while but decided to get active again. Based in Clovis, CA, used to ride alot but took a few years off to get financially set and now back in the game again. Love to ride Pismo and Jawbone Canyon. So.....anybody going to Pismo weekend of 1/28 to 1/30??? Actually I need someone to escort me and probably tow my RV in. It had been a while since I had ridden or even been to Pismo and just discovered the vultures prices for towing an RV in have gone through the roof....I will pay a handsome reward and offer my firstborn to anybody who accepts.

Disclaimer: Offer of firstborn does not imply that I am capable of producing quality human children, accepting of this offer involves moderate risk and is not revocable.

LMAO 450r.

MS Certified Engineer? Ewww. j/k. (Yeah, I'm a Linux guy.)

I'm local too. Not going that weekend (and with a 4x2 F-150 wouldn't be of any help anyways.) Don't know anyone else going that weekend either. Heading to Carnegie this weekend. You can call Angelo's (or whoever can tow there) for a reservation tow. I've heard it's like 65, not the "HELP I"m stuck!" $300 fee. I belong to a couple groups. Someone might be going then. Not sure. PM me for details. One group is mostly East Bay (doubtful they will be there that weekend, but never know) people. The other is some locals (Hanford, Reedley, Fresno & Clovis).
