Has the lakebed opened back up at El Mirage yet (after all the rain)? Every time we go there, we all get one flat tire after another. I'll be glad when they open back up the original entrance that they have closed down right now. I heard sometime in Feb or March?

Thanks for the welcoming Rescuediver-

I had heard somewhere that Angelo's had sold out to Steve's? Anyways I called Steve's and they quoted 125 for one-way escort and 300up if they had to hook me up. And that's just one way! My RV is just too big and fat to make it, I have been enough times to know that much.... Used to be I had a bunch of buddies with big trucks that could pull me in ez, guess that's why I'm here again. If you know any different about Angelo's let me know please.

We've had great luck so far in Pismo with not getting our RV stuck in the sand. Hubby just makes sure he doesn't park it too far back away from the water where the sand is super soft - it's worked every time so far. After we go through the entrance, we haul @$$ through the softer sand until we get to the firmer stuff. It helps that we have a Chevy Workhorse 8.1 lit. in only a 26 ft. RV - that thing's a hot-rod! We've seen lots of people who parked farther back than us having to get towed out by one of those Hummers with the tank rails on them. We tried to help a few times, but couldn't get them out.

The El Mirage lakebed is still covered in water and a lot of it...Yeah I hate that stupid Detour...I guess they are paving the first road thats why its closed...I also heard they are going to start charging to go there and also charge to camp

I wish they would open Gorman back up!

I ride with a guy with a 27' Class A that has someone with an HD pull him in. Usually a Dodge or Ford I don't think those 6.0 GMCs can do it. (I know, I'm beggin for it....) Doesn't even bother to air down. That's gotta be one heck of a ride sitting that high up on the sand wallowing around.

I also heard they're going to start charging to ride/camp there. I wonder how much? We probably won't go back until they finish paving that road because going in through the back entrance doesn't allow us to get to the trails we like to ride on without having to cross the lakebed, which is closed. Too far away from where we like to camp/ride. We go there because El Mirage is one of the closest places for us to ride. Have you ever rode at that place that's right where you get off the 15 fwy onto the 138 to go to El Mirage? At the 138 exit, if you just go straight onto the dirt road directly across from you (instead of making a left towards El Mirage), you follow the dirt road back underneath the railroad bridge and a lot of people ride there too. It's legal, but you need to buy one of those "Forest Passes" to ride there or you'll get a ticket. I don't believe you can camp overnight there either - just a place for a day ride. We've been there a couple of times.

I hear ya - we can't wait for Gorman to open back up. That's our favorite place.

Mine is a little bigger - 35' with slide out - and probably 3-5 tons heavier. I have been able to make it out past the creek with a smaller class B...the problem is turning around to park and making it up far enough to not get swamped at high tide. The one I have now is just one big rig...although it does have a tag axle which may keep me from getting buried...either way it will be interesting to find out.

Ive never been riding where you are talking about...Is the 138 the HWY to go to Mthigh ski resort? I take the 395 to get to El Mirage....Is the 138 a better way to go?

Ahh. Diesel Pusher? If it is, and you have a good traction style tire, may not be too bad. All the weight is at the back over the drive axles (which is what makes a Bug a good duner).
