Living near the dunes
Those of you who live within a couple hours of dunes, how often do you go? I'm just wondering because I'm thinking of a carreer change and want to pick a place to live that would make dune trips less time consuming. Does living near the dunes and being able to go anytime you want take the excitement away. We live on an island, surrounded by nice beaches, but hardly ever go to the beach anymore.

I think it depends on how good the dunes are. I live less than 2 hours from some small (800 acres) dunes and go 5 times in the summer maybe. I live about 5 hours from better dunes (12,000 acres) and go about 5 times a year and the really good dunes that are 10 hours away I make 2 or 3 trips to.
So, I would say that it doesn't get old or that I take the dunes for granted. If I could I would live right next to St. Anthony Dunes in Idaho.

Harv,
I like St. Anthony in Idaho the best. All dunes are different and the dunes there suit me better. Lots of HUGE hills to climb and very fast sections where you can run up the side of one dune, sidehill and turn back down and run up the side of the next dune. It's pretty cool. Also the toughest hills I've seen are there, some great bowls and plenty of smaller stuff o play on. There's nothing better than running up and down Chokecherry and Devil's dune, second best is having a cool beverage and watching everybody trying to make the hills..
I haven't been to Oregon dunes yet but that looks like a great place to ride as well.

Living near the dunes
Living close to Glamis makes me want to go MORE! I am about 160 miles and go as often as I can. It's to hot to go in the summer but in the winter I try and go every other weekend.
Of course in my area there is a 'sun shine tax'. Everything is more expensive here due to the near perfect weather year round.
