Default Edelbrock carb cutting out at high RPMs

I would try hooking the old cdi up and see if that dyna fs is causing the problem, if you think the carb cant flow enuff you can have it bored out a few mm for like 50-100 bux from edelbrock.

I know this is an old post guys, but this is the same exact thing that mine is doing. Has anyone figured it out yet? also, does anyone know the float level spec for the edelbrock or is there an easier way like the stockers? Thanks

Did you guys go through the accelerator pump adjustment carefully. I had mine up way too high originally, and it would bog down just like you guys say. Anyway heres the way to test:

Too high pumpshot - gentle and slow increase of throttle will cause some sputtering in the mid to high end

Too low pumpshot - when you gun the throttle very hard it will almost stall

It can be tricky to fine tune, and it will take quite a few test rides to perfect it.

I would say floating the valves would definately be an issue with the dyna rev box on there, and it seems to bog when it happens (just let the bike top out completely in any gear, it will happen in any gear). The carb itself actually adds a few revs to my quad just because it can supply the fuel needed that the stock carb couldn't. Third I would guess the float is off or the wrong needle is in there. Sounds like the pumpshot is more than likely the issue, it's a tricky lil ba$tard at times! lol. If you have changed your gearing, that would definately require a different pumpshot setting. To start out turn the screw to the minimum pumpshot first, and work your way slowly stronger with 1/8 to 1/4 turns, depending on how far off it is. Make sure to test it when your actually riding the bike, not in neutral and parked. Hope you guys fix the prob soon, it's really an awesome carb when it's fully tuned.

Did yours do it in only one gear or all? Anyone know where to set the float level at?

Mine did it in all gears when the accelerator pump was off. It happened in all gears again when the valves floated after the dyna was installed. When the accelerator pump was too strong it would tend to make that gargle sound in the high mids or top end when I slightly increased the throttle by a hair. Call up edelbrock, the number is 1 877 888 7504, they will help you out big time with the float. The customer service is excellent there.

I know, I keep trying to get sixsixt to port it. He might this winter. I adjusted the float, called their tech hotline, really helpful. Float level was off almost a half inch so I hope this fixes it. They can also bore them out to 42 for $50.
