yeah the 52 is at the crank,and the raptor has 43 at the crank.The difference is an awesome rotax motor that puts alot of mid power,but i think that the raptor has more torque.ANd the ds looks awesome,thats a different style that is cool looking.

 

I have an old All Terrain Vehicle magazine that has an article about these very two machines, and they were dynoed. The DS had 41.6 rear wheel horsepower and the Raptor had 33.8. The DS had 35.5 ft/lbs of torque and the Raptor had 31.7 ft/lbs of torque. The article goes on to say that this means the DS has about 12 pounds per horsepower and the Raptor has about 13 pounds per horsepower. Torque on the other hand, the DS had roughly 14 pounds per ft/lb of torque whereas the Raptor had roughly 13 pounds per ft/lb of torque.

 

At Fourstrokewars 2 I watched Ds's and raptors getting dynoed and I don't remember a whole lot of difference, maybe around 3HP. The biggest differences are the 5 valve head and dual carbs of the raptor. The 5 valve should lend itself to high RPM operation and I think the head is based on the FZR street bike engines. The dual carbs are an attempt to make up for the lack of vacuum signal in the lower RPMs. The Raptor has more potential mainly due to the head and the steel lined cylinder is cheaper to bore. Rotax motors are built better but are costly to replace parts in.

 

It's the motor period. I mean if it's good enough for a BMW, besides it always gets run in the Paris to Dakar rally. Mostly in the cycles.
