The day Yammy starts putting the R1 engine in a quad is the day I will finally get rid of the Rappy!

Technically this is a street bike. Yamaha is bringing the old enduro's back and the XT660R is new this year to Europe and I am not sure if it's for sale in the U.S. This is an on/off road bike which would mean that it is a street bike, but not a sport bullet bike. As for whether the 660 motor was intended for the quad or the bike first I am not sure. I'd lean towards the 660 designed for the atv first since the Raptor came out in 01 and the XT660R is new in 2004. I aslo would like to see an R1 motor on a quad and yes they could do it, but the fact is that it is a real liability and it depends on which company (Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda, etc.) wants to take that first step. As for now it looks like the ATV market is satisfied with the new 450 but only time will tell.

Damn I wish I had the RX-1 to put in my Raptor. It looks skinnyer. (sp) But it still puts out the same hp that mine does, so I'm still ahead.

The Horsepower wars are on! In the early 90's Polaris was the king of snowmobile with a 650cc triple putting out a 100hp's and with a top speed of 120mph. Everyone said NO way they will never any bigger people will kill themselves.

Well here we are 10 years later and the "norm" is 600 and 700cc with a 100hp and speeds of 120mph. But some cruisers and musle sleds are over 1000cc, over 170hps and will top speed of 150mph

Trust me it can happen

and lets look at the watercrafts in the early 90's. 500cc to 650cc, 35hp's to 55hp's and speed between 30 and 40mph was the fastest and badest thing monie could buy!!!!

10 years later!!! "actually in the past 3 years"
Were at 1500cc, 215hp Supercharged four-stroke, three-cylinder and with top speeds of over 70mph

Sea Doo "With an unheard of 215 horses of intercooled, supercharged power "

hahaha, roosthrower, you crack me up. You see, all these raptor owners are getting upset now, i think their starting to relize that the raptor was the quad that yamaha put out to be, but never actually was...thats why they went back to the drawing boards 3 years later. uh oh, did i say that?

Who are you kidding? I am totally happy with my Raptor. It was exactly what I expected it be or more. Granted my YFZ450 is faster than the raptor I enjoy riding the Raptor more. It's a quad you can ride for hours on end. There's nothing wrong with Yamaha thinking about building an even faster machine. In short I'd think it'd be great in Yamaha came out with the R1 machine, but for now my Raptor keeps me happy.

everything is getting bigger! its only a matter of time, The R1/RX-1 is one of the best engines around.

This is NOT all about speed, I want it in a 4x4, with this much torque it will be a blast to ride
