I know, I get your point. I just hate to get my hopes up about something like that when I know our friendly liberals and tree huggers will only burst my bubble. But hey, you never know. Now I must excuss myself for a nice warm glass of milk before going nighty night.

I didnt bother reading this whole thread, its kind of a waste of my time, but all i have to say is, yeah, they might come out with a 1000cc quad in the next few years, but its gonna be a damn long time before we see 4-cyl's in quads. They only make a few twins right now, so i really REALLY doubt any company is stupid enough to jump out and make a 1000cc 4 cyl and actually expect to have people know what to do with it, especially yamaha, they're smarter than that. Yeah, 145hp would be fast, but being that nobody has broken the 50hp barrier stock with a possible exception of a zilla, i dont know for sure, i dont think its going to be legalized with 145hp. snowmobiles have a lot of power and so do watercraft because it takes more power to move through snow and water. Atv's seem to do just fine with the kind of power we have now, so i think this story is pretty farfetched. Maybe in 10 or 15 years.

do u think I would have bought my quad if I didn't have a need for speed? It's just MHO that quads were built to go in more directions than just straight. If you want some 145HP quad so you can climb a hill at 150 MPH, then go build one. I honestly don't think it would be cost effective for any manufacturer to build one.

Look at the 450's in Dirtbikes... People are starting to race them less and less because it's just too much power on the track.

If you think there's too many restrictions on ATV's now, just wait til a couple of drunken idiots die going 100+mph on one of these 1000cc quads.

I am pritty sure that yamaha makes the 660 with a fuel injected head on some versions of that enduro (or all im not sure) If I do recall correctly It had a 4 valve fuel injected head. I would think that yamaha has some sort of R&D seeing how this will work on the raptor. I thought someone was going to try to get a hold of one of these heads and try to put it on there raptor, can't recall who though.

btw i entered kinda late in this thread, this really shoulda gone on page 1

The raptor motor has been used in the MZ Scorpion for quite a long time, before it was used in the Raptor. Its similar to the new 660 Euro Enduro that is out now, not injected though.
1997 Scorpion
The motor was designed a long time before Yamaha even thought about big bore sport quads.

Will it be Yamaha, they have the motor already?

In this month issue of "all- Terrain vehicle" www.atvmag.com they say that one of the OEM's will have a prodution 1000cc V-Twin Sport Utility ATV in the next 18 to 24 months!!!

All I have to say is:

Have you guys actually ridden a real R1? (I know some of you must have!)

I owned one for a long time, just recently sold it.

I have also owned a built Zilla, and currently own a banshee, not to mention my current
Kawasaki KX500. Arguably the fastest (or ONE OF THE) off road dirt bikes ever made.

The R1 is well, just absolutely mindblowing fast even when compaired to the KX500.
The R1 will go (with stock gearing, and stock tire sizes) 90MPH... in first gear. 114, in second.

And dont think its just super super wide gearing at 'fault'. First gear, full throttle, although a wide very fast gear, will wheelie up uncontrollably (sp?) if you go wide open... even if you are WAY up on the tank prepaired for it.

This much power in a quad frame is absolutely rediculous, and unusable.
And dont think of me as being a woman.. or a wus.
I have owned (in my young 24 years) a CBR600, a kwak ZX-7R, (ninja 750) and the R1's power, you could never get used too. (not to mention all the dirt bikes, quads and atc's)

Im saying, and anyone with any kind of reason or R1 experience should agree with me, the R1 in a quad frame is nothing that yamaha would put into production. Its just too much.

And another thing, im not even talking about the new 2004 R1 motor. That has 20-30 MORE HP, and will supposedly do over 100MPH in first cog.

I foresee that sometime here in the near future they will put a limit on streetbike developers. Since they're already way too fast/powerful as it is.

Your kidding right?

Its not all about max speed. Its about how quik you can get down 300ft OR up a hill. Unstable high speeds are only an issue for the ball-less.
