Default Raptor oil level question pls.

I just bought an 01 and a 03 Raptor from a guy that bought them both new. Both of them show oil clear up to the top of the dip stick. I read the book and it is clear about being down in the low-full area. Any ideas on why both are over full and is it ok? I can only assume that he put the full 3 quarts in.??? Any tricks on getting oil into the thing? Thanks.

Did you mean getting oil OUT of the thing......if so just put a pan under the oil drain plug and drain about a half quart....as far as if to much oil is bad,,, I can't say..I always run mine at the mark..I'm sure the oil needs some air space in there to help keep it cool.

About getting oil into the thing, doesn't look like there is room to put the quart up there to pour it in. Both have skid plates, do I have to take them off to drain the oil?

You have to drain the oil in 2 places....1 at the oil resevoir up front and the other under the motor...You most likely have to remove the skids as they collect any oil that missed the pan...as far as putting oil in ..I use a looong funnel that just makes it to the hole...Put in a quart..start the bike for a couple seconds ..This sucks it from the res to the motor..put in a second quart..start it again for a moment.. then put in your final .2 quarts .It's an ugly job...but nothing compared to changing the jetting..If you want a good oil filter...use the Bosch 3300..Much less expensive. The Yamaha filters are expensive and not all that great...avoid the Fram filters as they are made of cheep cardboard.

Next time will be the Bosch as I just bought oil and filters from a Yamaha dealer, spent $100 to do the two Raptors and a Sportsman 700! Ouch. Thanks for the info I will be out working and riding now!

get a long tranny funnel,,,or tip the bike on its side a bit (what I do since I lost my funnel)

Usually some oil will get on my skid plate,,,,and If it is too much to clean up,,,I will wash it down with some Joy dishsoap and water.

you will also need to fashion some sort of way to divert the oil tank oil as it comes out. (to miss the skid plate)

I use an offset funnel that works fine,,,,,you could also make one out of a 2 liter coke bottle.

Got both done thanks to the input! Had to take the skid plate off the 03 but the 01 had a slot by the plug so I didn't have to take that one off.

Now crap I took the 03 for a 10 minute ride and when I got back and shut it off there is gas running out the tube by the rear shock mount and its still running. Whats that all about???

Oh and there is something wrong with both of them as the front end keeps coming off the ground when I hit the gas in first and second????
