grizzly clutch maintenance
#1
anybody out there know how to remove and clean the clutch on an 02 griz. had it done at the dealer once after a real wet weekend but would like to do it myself this time. i am familiar with sled clutches as i have always owned one but this is different. any info ,advice , or links would be great. also is it necessary to do the secondary?

check here
Here ya go, its about 5 topics down the page...even has pictures. Most guys use marine grease instead of the grizzly grease, its as good and much cheaper.

hey buckshot, read the message slowly this time. didn't say it was wet, i said it was dirty. just finished cleaning and regreasing it and ready for more mud!!! maybe you should take that quad of yours of the pavement sometime,or trade it in on a smart car. thanks for the advice hondabuster

cool down dude! i've just never heard of a clutch getting dirty on such a new machine. i just guessed that it was slipping. what then did you notice that made you check to see if it was dirty?
by the way, i live in northern wisconsin, where there are endless trails everywhere you look. i go on 55-75 mile rides just about every weekend through thick, deep, mudholes and huge water crossings. i use my quad more than just about anyone. "take your quad off the pavement sometime" hahahaha i laugh at such foolishness!

I've got a 99 Grizzly that I just removed the clutch on and regreased. Texmudder has a good right up on how to do it. He says about a teaspoon of grease per weight. If it gets dirty or dry, likely just noisy, accellerated wear and or not moving thru the full range of gear ratios. It would take water or grease on the belt / sheeves to get slippage I'm guessing. 72 lb-ft to tighten the clutch nut on a 600 grizzly. How did you hold the primary sheeve while you tightened the nut?

Theres a special yamaha wrench, that looks like a spanner wrench, which can hold it still...but i think most guys use an impact wrench.
