Default 2005 Kodiak 450

I'm trying to decide if I should put a K&N Air Filter on my kodiak or stick with the stock filter since it is a oiled foam one. Any suggestions? Anyone put a K&N air filter on and notice any difference?

Thanks...

I would go with a UNI filter. I had the origional foam filter in mine and my sparkplug was always black indicating it could use more air. Since adding the UNI filter (which is foam also) my spark plugs are light grey which is the color your looking for. The UNI filter will require filter oil so be sure to get some of that, filter cleaner, and filter grease so it makes a tight seal when u reinstall your filter cage in your airbox. Now sure the K&N is a nice filter and will let even more air into your machine but I don't think u want to do that unless you plan of rejetting your carb and if your doing that you would want to get a new excaust to really notice a diff. But if you like me and just want a slight improvement in performance and to make your sparkplug the correct color (if its black like mine was) go UNI.

I am planning on re-jetting since I ride above 5,000 ft all the time. Just wondering if the Uni or K&N is any better than the stock foam filter. My local dealer says not to change it.

I'm using the UNI filter for about the last 500 miles. No problems here. I even put one of those billet exhaust end cap on the muffler. The hole is about twice the size. Mine seems to be running good with this set up.

Was there any noticable difference when you put the Uni on or is it just a better filter?

I cant really say you will notice any differance. The stock one is more dense and probaly catches more dirt.
