95 banshee clutch
#1
ok here it goes. i put a new clutch on my banshee. called the guy at shipps and the dumbass on the phone told me to tighting the 6 bolts that hold the springs in to 30 ft. lbs. we got to about 6 ft.lbs and the head of it snaped off. question 1. how tight should i make those 6 bolts or screws or what ever you wana call them. question 2. tell me if im right or not. if you tighting the screws too tight it will engage the clutch as if u were pulling the lever making it so i cant go anywhere. just let me know. thanks guys.

I don't know the torque specs for the clutch spring bolts,I generally just run them down fairy snug with a ratchet, they will not backout because the spring pressure. The clutch assembly is pressed together by the springs causing the plates to grip, so it transfers power from the motor to the transmision. When you pull in the clutch it lets the plates spread apart and slip so you temp. stop the power from the motor to the trans. Many people run heavier springs to help the clutch grab better then stock.

so are you able to over tighten them. or should i just wait for them to thread in and then give it an extra turn or 2. because right now every thing has been put back together and there is no tension in the clutch lever. and when i start it and kick it into gear it doesnt go anywhere as if i was pulling in the lever.

The torque spec is 7.4 ft.#s,If you overtighten they will break out of the clutch. As far as the other problem of the clutch not engaging,I suggest you get a cylmers manuel.Did you change the clutch because of this problem or was the clutch slipping? The metal clutch plates have to be staggered when installed and there is a adjustment to take out slack out of the clutch push rod system. Make sure a ball bearing did not fall out when you were working on it.Get on e-bay and buy a cylmers manuel it is the best investment you can make for your banshee and it will save you a ton of money in the long run

i started the clutch along time ago and what put me at a hault was the dude at the shop was an idiot and told me 30ft lbs. so the one bolt had already snaped. i was guna drill it out but since its aluminum and very touchy i didnt want to make things worse so i just took it to the shop and told them to do it. im not a machanic. i know a little bit about the insides but not enough to do anything with them. i just like riding them n racing it. i was curious so i tryed to fix it myself. kinda tought myself a lesson there.. dont touch what you dont know unless i got a manual. but any additional info you think i would need for future if i ever have to mess with the clutch again feel free to post. thanks
