Default 02 Raptor 660r... Stupid POS Sprocket Problems

My brother bought a "used" 02 Raptor 660r....
So far.. it keeps falling apart........Muffler fell off.. had to remount that....
Battery Sucks.. gotta get a new one...
Had to get a new chain.. and will have to get new sprockets too..

But now we got a problem...

While riding it... we stopped... put it in neutral.. rested.. Put it in 1st... gave it gas... she wouldnt go....
put her back in neutral... then in 1st again.. more gas.. still wouldnt go...

I looked down.. the small drive sprocket is loose.. the nut that holds it and tightens it is GONE!! And i see some oil on the ground.. and around the area... its leaking some sort of oil.. maybe motor oil from that drive area.....
For a look at what i am talking about .. look here..
in this pic u will see the sprocket and the nut....

Now i know basically i gotta get a new sprocket and a new nut... but whats the deal with this oil leaking.. is that normal?
If so.. i guess i should do an oil change and put new stuf in there after i get the new sprocket stuff on..

I could use any advice here guys.. i appreciat it much...

It's a bad seal, something that isnt exactly common but certainly not rare either. The yfz's seem to have a bigger problem with it. You can pick one up from a dealer or an online oem parts retailer.

Ok a Bad Seal... what type of seal... what am i looking for..... whats the part called... etc..

what prices am i looking at?

Is this gonna be hard to fix/repair/replace....? I am not a big mechanic.. i can do basic stuff like oil changes, spark plugs, carbs, brakes, etc..... but i have a bud who is a marine/small engine mechanic....

I want to have my bros Raptor fixed up for spring....

The more advice, info, tips, i can get.. the better... thanks guys

The sprocket seal ripped on my YFZ too... not too hard to fix, around 20 bucks worth of parts (seal, o-ring, etc.).

Go to a website that has on-line assembly drawings and oem part numbers, for instance Alba Action. It is very easy to find parts and order them. Next, get yourself a manual that will help with these kinds of repairs. This will answer all your questions to maddog.

It would be great to have a quad that just works all the time. Chain, sproket, battery, a couple of loose screws and a silencer falls off, this is pretty common stuff in a high vibration environment. I would go through the bike and snug everything up and use locktite to reduce the chance of loose hardware.

The plate under the sprocket holds a collar with an o-ring that resides in a oil seal. All of this mounts onto the drive axle. You may have a worn seal and o-ring which will cause a LOT of engine oil to leave the tranny. It's pretty hard to damage the collar and axle unless you wad the chain at high speed. Try the o-ring and seal. You can replace these externally, but be careful removing and installing the oil seal. NO DIRT ALLOWED!!! Good luck!

also,,,be sure your chain is not over tightened

I have seen countershaft seals go out from too much tension.
